What's the difference between Register.com and the ones talked about on here? Register.com is $35 bucks but there seems to be a lot of tidbits with it. I'm new, so your answers are important to me. Thank you.

The main difference (as far as I can tell in my experiences) is about $20-$25.

yup you could register 3-5 domains elsewhere for the price of one there

Really, there's not much of a difference, other than the obvious price.
The "bells and whistles" that are added on by registrars are ususally provided by your web host - email accounts, mx records, etc. - and are certainly not worth an extra $20-$25!
Whether you pay $35 or much less, you'll still get your domain registered and fully usable for the period purchased. Beware of so-called "free" services, because you'll usually end up having to purchase the domain after a year, or be in the never ending popup and banner zone.
Good luck registering your domain and with your web experience!

Thanks for the answer. In that $12.00 domain reg. how do I address the domain to a website -- or is it self explanatory?
And thanks.

With every registrar, in order to point the domain to a page, you will need a host that can host domains. You will need the host's DNS servers (the things that go ns1.blahhost.com 255.255.255.255) and input them at your registrar thru the cp.

SirArthur,
I just sent you a pretty detailed email - hopefully it will answer most of your questions about name servers and hosting.
Thanks!

register.com also owns namebargain.com which I used but they have raised thier prices so Im transfering my domains at renewal time. NB used to charge $10 (for a while $6) and now its $13.
Their technical support ( namebargain uses register.com) is not very good because it takes them a long time (2+days ) to reply and you may not always get a reply. In this case you dont get what you pay for.
I use www.npsis.com
