My friend's got a 3 GB HD.. and he wants to get rid of a folder called "system volume information" cus it takes up around 900MB of space, But he thinks it may contain 'window restore points'..

Question to u guys is - what does that folder do? and is it advisable to get rid of it?

Thanks a lot. :-)

delete the restore points through a different way - deleteing things from folders like that is a bad idea in general - but removing restore points would be good for a 3GB hdd...

you should go into the window settings and limit how much space restore points can use. Anyway, I think the default setting is 10%, so there is no way it would take 900MB unless someone messed with it before

i'd remove windows restore pionts, i've got a 40 gig hard drive and windows restore points where taking up to 2 gig of space. really not worth it anyway, i've never used the feature.
