I tried to sign up and have found that they are a scam. Why?? This is the true story. I have spent so much time signing up affiliates for them since they require you to have 10 sign ups with them before they can activate your account and set up the FTP for them. Well, I spent so much time signing up and I KNOW for sure that I signed up for at least 10 to fill my end of the bargain, but they email me back saying that I did not truly sign up. I was PISSED OFF after this because I spent so much time signing up and made them some money and they don't even activate my account. They are scams!!!.....take the money that you made for them from your sign ups...and don't even activate your account. Watch out!!

Look guys, S4W is a legitamate host, and the services they provide are fantastic. It's not a scam, but the whole thing is sorted by a single guy, and he has to deal with tons and tons of requests and applications for hosting. If your site is of really low quality, or doesn't follow the site's guidelines then obviously he doesn't want to waste his money on buying bandwidth and space for you. It doesn't have to be the coolest site on earth, it just can't suck ---.
As for the 'support programs' those are needed basically to pay for the site. Once it gets going it shouldn't need as many, and will end up probably not needing them at all. Of course it's all down to choice, whether you would like to have to spend an hour signing up for programs, or pay $100-$200 for the same quality hosting.

They checked my site and they decided that it was good enough to host it and then they sent me an email requiring me to sign up with at least 10 of their affiliates program to make money for them. I don't think they have "tons of requests" as to be too busy because they email me back telling me sign up for 10 of their affiliate program in a very short time.

I really don't mind taking the time to sign up for 10 of their affilate programs because I realize that they do need to earn some money to keep their hosting service up. BUT the thing that PISSED ME OFF is that they take the money that I earned for them from my sign ups (all 10 of them because my e-mail is now filled with full of junk mails sent from 10 of those affiliate programs that I signed up) and won't even activate my account. Furthermore, when I asked them how much more do I still need to sign ups they don't even answer my e-mail for 2 days after repeated emails were sent. If they are nice enough, they should just sent me an e-mail telling me how much more I still need to sign up, just in case some of the sign ups did not go through. Again, I know that all 10 went through because I have the proofs in my email. I probably made for them more than $10. I just wasted all of those time signing up for NOTHING!
So watch out folks!!! This is a scam!!! You will be PISSED OFF if you try to sign up. This is the first time that I have wrote something bad about a certain free web host.

Ok, I must admit I'm not the guy who sorts through the applications, but there are a ton of people pleased with our service.
There are instructions in the auto-responder to compile an email with the comfirmation emails (ovbiously removing passwords) and sending those in. Anyway -- it shouldn't be that hard, and I'm pretty sure if your site is decent then Jim (the Admin) will set up your site.
He is constantly sorting through emails -- and the reason that you got emailed back so quick is probably because you caught him just as he was checking...
Really, it is a good service and worth while, it is not, and I will repeat, NOT A SCAM.

This is what I got from my email after my first application:
Congratulations, you have been accepted into being hosted by
Source4Webmasters.com. We would appreciate your help in supporting us,
if you havn't done so already, by signing-up for the free stuff found
at http://source4webmasters.com/sections.php?op=viewarticle&artid=46
(You're supposed to sign up for Ten of those Program before we give you
your FTP and subdomain)
So this mean that my site was decent enough to be hosted.
Also, I always confirm the email that was sent to me by those affiliates. Now I have tons of junk mails from those affiliates and get nothing in return. So frustrating!!!
Really, it is a good service and worth while, it is not, and I will repeat, NOT A SCAM.
It looks like a good service from all the features that are posted on the website BUT it is a scam because it does not set up the account after you sign up for 10 of those affiliates to make money for them. At least have the decency to tell the people that have signed up how many more affiliates need to be sign up and which affiliates have been received. You just can't take the money that was earned from the people that have signed up for your affiliates and run. That is not nice and not professional.

$100-200 is maybe what you hope to get for all those signups. It's hardly what we would have to pay for the same "quality" hosting.

1 - First it's not a scam !!!
2- Second all he does is ask you to sign up to affilates to pay the host...
3-He told me the servers down today and hopefully will be back up soon. I had my site hosted there and it was good. I know a lot of us had sites there. I think there was about 30 of us. When he had forums it was even cooler. I was there from the beginning of the site...

How could it be a scam?
Someone is kind enough to give away free web space, without banners. No-one has been signing up with the affiliate programs, so they have been forced to make people sign up for them to cover their expenses.
This doesn't sound that unreasonable!

This is not a scam, and it was not a coninsidence that I signed up meow.
I think this is one of the best servers! Although today it was down, servers are allowed to be down at certain times are they not?
You shouldn't say anything if you don't have proof. And I have plenty of proof that this server is the best FREE one out there, it has over 30 happy customers, and what more can you ask for? It's not its fault that it's down today, it's Source4Webmasters hosts fault.
And who has real proof that it's a scam eh, no one exactly! My point proven! And to the last posters poster, it's because only afew people actually give the money so he selected the list and only the ones from the new list works.
Plus those signup things/places are a load of crap, I was doing research with some of my friends today, about those affiliate things (some on Source4Webmasters, and plenty of others), and most of them give you the money for afew weeks, then cut off the account, and leave you thinking the account is still open when it was cancelled and making you wonder why no one signs up or clicks on banners. This could have happened but it may have not. But this is what actually happens with most banner places, so this may be the reason of him not knowing you signed up. I personally don't know the FULL length story so I can't say. But I can say of what I know.

Ok -- It is saying we suggest you support us, and in exchange by supporting us we provide you with hosting...note that we are not forcing you to do anything. You chose to sign up for those programs to recieve a benefit in doing so, not the word CHOSE. That means that you yourself made the decision to do so.
Also, nobody forced you to do anything like use your main mail account. There was no reason for you not to sign up for a hotmail account and sign up for the support programs using that, that's what i would do.
And PROOF THAT IT IS NOT A SCAM, the following sites are or are in the process of being hosted: (not they are the first part to the subdomains...so it would be the following SITE.source4webmasters.com)

Well I know people haven't signed up and have been accepted. It says supposed to meaning they would like. You can take anything and make it prove what you want. I have hosting and so do over 30 others so I really don't feel scammed. I can see where you're coming from cuz you didn't get your FTP up, but if you just thank the guy you'll be surprised what happens. They do have to pay the bills somehow. I had my UBB up yesterday and it works great. Fast too
I don't know how you can say they force, since I know people that haven't signed up for the Affiliate programs and so does Logik, therefor it cannot be forced
It comes down to if you want to be nice and thankful or be a Jackass and pay $100. I would rather be nice but its your choice. Im sure if you email Jim he would look at your situation and set it up. First, the word "suppose" does not mean "optional." I understand that a web host has to generate money to survive. That is general knowledge. So I don't mind taking the time to sign up the affiliates and generate some income for S4W. BUT what PISSED ME OFF is the fact that they send me an email back saying that I did not sign-ups. They are accusing me of not signing up at least 10 when I infact did sign up. The feeling of being falsely accused is not good. For instance, you said that you have about 30 people hosted by you and people here said that you are a SCAM, and you don't like it because you feel that you have been falsely accused. So why did you go and accused other of not signing up for the affiliate programs. You got a taste of your own medicine and now you don't like it. You keep saying that it is just optional to sign up for the affiliate programs, and some even said that some people got the account activated without even fulfilling the 10 affilitate sign-ups. THIS IS AGAIN NOT FAIR!...because some people like me took the time to sign up for the affiliate programs, being wrongly accused of not signing up, and got nothing in return. You said that the comissionjuction.com delay the stats on the sign-ups, then why don't S4W tell you that instead of accusing you of not signing up?
M Elliot
June 16th, 2001, 16:19
Ovbiously this whole thing is a huge misunderstanding. If you have signed up for the programs, email a composite email to mark@source4webmasters.com. Unfortunately the site is down today, and the mailservers are out but I will check once they are back up. Once we've verified you really have signed up then we will set up your account.
The difference is that we did not say we would provide hosting without verification of you signing up for programs, whereas you claimed you signed up for programs and simply expected hosting, the difference is that we did not say something and then not hold true to it.

Think of it more that if you sign up for 10 or more programs through our site that you are recieving a reward...we are rewarding contributions you make.... It's alright to tell people not to sign up because you weren't catored to within your time range, but don't claim it's a Scam. I'm hosted and therefor it's not a Scam. Oh well, you people are Fatasses that are wasting your lives eating Food and following the crowd. Look @ the facts and make your own mind...They just suggested signing up would help the site. He said most of the hosted sites didn't sign up. If you signed up, just wait. It took my account 3 days to get up. He's a busy guy, He is going to host my domain when they get their own server too. He was also going to offer Free Domain hosting, but I really doubt he'll be so kind now that people show their true colors. He posted on the forum once, that the Free Stuff wasn't going to be there much longer, He just was going to have them up the first month and that's it, then add some staff and they'd be accepting sites more rapidly. It's too bad this site won't be running anymore. At least I get my domain hosted when they get their server.

hy would you report someone who was trying to be nice? If you seriously don't think what he offered to 30 people was nice, then you're pretty strange. I'm sure if you waited to see if your application was approved when the site and mail servers get back up (They were down all today), he'd probably host you. He's upgrading to a Huge Server he will own in less than a Month so they'll have room for so many more sites. They're going to load up like 512 IP's he told me, so they will be hosting a lot of domains, although he won't buy them for you.

Well, i'm sure you were demanding or didn't get your point across like now. I can barely understand you. When his sites back up, just resubmit it to admin@source4webmasters.com and be nice. Give him lots of details and if you have good content I guarentee you'll be accepted.

Well, as far as I can see the people -----ing about S4W being a scam are either trying to bad mouth it for no particular reason or are so grossly incompetent that they can't even manage to fill in a few forms right.
I am hosted at S4W, as far as I can see it is a guy with his own server who generously hosts sites made by your average Joe, free of charge. The only thing he does ask so that he can maintain and run his server is that you generate a little revenue for him and give him some god damn common curtsey!!
My site was nothing special, I requested to him and got an email back the next day (speaking of which, I always get next day replies from every email I send) and then I signed up with as many services I could, and wallah.
I would advise anyone looking for a great host to ignore the people on this board who I hope have had a lobotomy (for their sake) and request hosting, be nice, do your part and enjoy!! :)

John, Listen. When the site is back up, resubmit your application to either admin@source4webmasters.com or just use the form. If you're nice to him and say "I love your service, My site is about Blah blah. I love your design too. Thanks in advance for hosting me."
He just wants people to be nice/Decent. Being demanding really doesn't help also take a little while to wait. My friend didn't get his for about a week. It's worth it though.
I really don't see the point of claiming a scam, I guess if this is the point of your life, Great. Good for you, although it's pretty sad. If you just waited for the site, and resubmit it, then if you are all nice and say thanks and nice words alot and he still doesn't host you, Then call him a Scam
I'm confident if you have a good layout and are nice you'll get hosted
My friends sites layout wasnt that good and I know all he did was be nice. It's kind of like with teachers @ school (Wait-you're uneducated I forgot), you're nice to them so you get a better grade...It's true, if you suck up in life, You get rewarded

Well, I don't blame you if you like kiss butt, I don't blame you if you support the unfair treatment, and the discrimincation that site is practicing. But for me, I don't kiss butt to scammers.. i only kiss but to stuff that is well worth it.. I don't know why you think a sub domain hosting, that probably gonna last 1 week is worth it.
Well i guess you used your brain and defined scam.. But thats not what it really means!!! if you use your brain and look in the dictionary, this is what it means!
"A fraudulent business scheme; a swindle.
tr.v. scammed, scam·ming, scams
To defraud; swindle."
if you to stupid to know that.. there scheme is to promise hosting if they sign up for sponsors.. and they broke there promise there for its a scam!!! go back to school!

First off, KissButt is something a 5 year old would say. They don't discriminate...They just look @ every site. Subdomain hosting is worth it when you get
-MySQL php Perl5, CGI Bin, and 75MB storage. If you don't need that then why apply? You obviously don't know about those. Also, i'm getting my domain hosted for Free. A domain only costs $8. And he was going to offer this for other people, but require a once week pop-up. Subdomain hosted sites wouldn't have to have it, but Domains would.
I think the guys nice, if you want to claim on the scam, And not support him because of your assumption, I don't see your logic...
My point is that if you resubmit and nice and you have a decent layout, I doubt you have a good clean layout that follows the rules, then if he still doesn't accept you, then call him a Scam. And it would be legit.
Johnny
June 16th, 2001, 21:41

This is what Jim emailed me this morning. He told me that they're getting their own brand new server.
The Free plan will be
www.yourdomain.com Web Hosting
35MB Web Storage
Unlimited FTP Access
Unlimited Email Accounts (user@yourdomain.com)
POP & Web-based Email Access
Email Forwarding
Email Autoresponder
PHP4
Perl5
Unlimited MySQL Databases
One pop up ad/Week
He's searching for servers now and if anyone wants to help him find a great one, I'm sure he'd really love that and take your pop-up off just post some links in this thread.

Well you think all 100 sites followed the guidelines? I don't know, but I doubt it. I'm sure a lot were repeated sign ups
I don't think you can assume how many applicants there were either. Even if there were 400, he only chooses some, not all. There is an Autoresponder to everyone, but it doesn't mean you're accepted. I think they assume you're literate. That might be what went wrong with you.
He told me their loading up on 512 IP's so I suspect their going to be hosting more sites once they get this new server. Those are IP's for domains, not Subdomains. And I think you'll be able to have your own subdomains but you do have a limit of space.
The Mail servers are down today, Did you not read what Mark posted. So it's impossible for him to host your site. Look if you really want the hosting just be nice. I can see why he didn't host you. I can see why you're on the internet this much. How do people stand you? You sound like a Jackass. Maybe he sent you the email on accident. I'm sure if he gets a lot, there could be a slip up
If you applied twice thats probably why he didn't send you the info. They don't want you to submit more than once. As for the others, I think they should do what I suggested." they seem to be nice deep down, but you Johnny, you don't know english, that's your problem

Ok, Look I think this is a good host and so do a lot of other people who came to the defense of ~S4W. To the people that didn't get their FTP info, it could be because he was too busy so just wait or just reply apply and be nice. The site isn't up yet, but I know they're getting their own server really soon so when that's up apply there. BTW, they don't pay for your domain you have to buy it, but they'll host it if you have good content.
Mark also can add sites so email Mark if you think Jims an -------. Mark will setup your site. I like Jim and Mark both, but maybe you like Mark better.
mark@source4webmasters.com (I think he said it's down). I think the site will be back up on their new server soon, so just watch for the site. They will probably get some new Shorter domains for those who want Subdomain hosting too, so that's another thing you could do. Go to register.com and try to find very short .com's that aren't taken and post them here so they can have short URL's for you people.
He's helping me with my site too, so I really think this guy is nice. I guess you have to talk to him though. You can assume a lot, but I think you know it's not true.
I respect your opinions (And that's what they are), but the truth is lots of people are hosted and more will be when the Mail gets through. It takes me a long time just to type this so think say your estimate of 400 emails was true, then he would be writing and setting up FTP's for all of them. Well probably only accept 10% so about 40. But that is still a lot of emails and stuff to setup.
Always think about the other person before you complain. I'm trying to see it from your situation and I can see why Wizard and the other person are mad, but you Johnny I don't see your point really. And I think everyones problems can be solved.

I don't think 5 year olds can have a 5 year old kid. He's not going to have the Free Stuff on the page once they get the new server. I think he posted that in the news. I know he emailed me that. I guess I assumed you could read, sorry. Again, I make sense. I have structure and use the correct tense. You say all your stuff like it was the past. It doesn't make sense. I'm starting to wonder if you're either Retarded or not native to an english speaking country. If you're native language isn't english, that's fine, but I am speaking fine english. Not great, but I'm expressing my thoughts pretty clearly. I think you need to learn how to count also, I counted ~15 on the Free Stuff Page. Which isn't close to 100. That's a good try though. I'm proud that you tried though. Your 5 year old son is probably pretty proud too. His daddy almost knows basic math.
He's a Webdesigner and is stopping Free Webdesign so he'll support the site that way. Other questions email him, but it's down. This is all I know, Mark is another guy you want to talk to. Mark's very nice and he helped me with my site when I was getting it up. They're nice people just give them a Chance. Express your thoughts and I think you'll be surprised what happens Johnny.

Johnny and others who are bashing source4webmasters, get your facts straight. If you treat the webmaster of S4W.com with respect maybe he'd do the same for you. Flaming and being a jackass isn't going to get you anywhere. I'm going to be hosted by him, and it's because I treated him nicely and with respect, and in return I got the same back. Obviously he is very busy and he can't activate your hosting right when you send it.
Also, it is not a scam. You should appreciate the free hosting enough so that you don't have to come on here calling it a scam. Just respect the great deal and kind webmaster and maybe you will get respect and service in return - it worked for me.

curiousity, and TheWizard have concerns that I can understand. I would be pissed off if someone did that to me, but i'm sure Jim was just busy or something. I dare you to re-apply and get the same results. It won't happen, I'm confident. Both of you try it and see what happens. Hey maybe since you had bad experiences they'll even chip in $8 for your domain. I don't know, probably don't ask them that or you would sound demanding but when you're nice anything can happen. As for weapon saying they can kiss her booty, that really isn't the attitude they like, so I wouldn't be surprised if you're not accepted ever. NeedCGIspace you sound like you could have a nice site, so i'm sure he would host you. Your name obviously suggests you need the CGI, So i'll say there is a 99% chance you'll be accepted.

I pop/up banner thing isn't that bad!
If the server will still be fast all will be fine, unfortunately he's gonna lower 75mb down to 30mb, but hey!
The hosting will still be good, and it wont cost him so much money. So hopefully things will be much faster. But unfortunately he said he'd be down for about 1 - 2 months, meaning all hosted sites wont be up for about 2 months. But after that he said it should be up and running!
Although it will have 1 pop up a week, it's better than Angelfire.com and Hobbiton.org! Hobbiton.org isn't that fast, and Angelfire doesn't allow CGI or other things!
And lastly it's not a scam.
Think about it, you haven't done it right obviously.
Here's afew tips to getting hosted properly:
- Be greatful (It helps to worship)
- don't moan
- have a good layout
- be peaceful
- learn TaiChi

Also, two more things Johnny -
1. This site is NOT disciminatory. If you're going to call hosting for sites that deserve it discriminatory, then you're also saying that tryouts for a sports team would be discrimination. The good kids make it over the bad kids!
2. The fact that you say you have a five year old son, along with the way you're talking here kind of scares me...

Unfortunately S4W is going down for a month because lexton.net their host, is closing.
Because of all this excitement the chances are free hosting will no longer be offerred, and for those of you who have already been hosted and contributed to the site in a pleasant and grateful manner will probably (note it says PROBABLY, not CERTAINLY) hosted on a new dedicated server.

Answer for question 1
WTF are you talking about? I didn't say anything about freewebspace.net is discrminatory. I say S4W is. If you didn't know that in the kids sports they once discriminated against bad kids, which brought a law sue now its illegal to not let a kid in a team because he sucks.. Thats why if you look into any peewee team.. All kids get to join.
Answer to question 2
Whats wrong with my behavior? its not like you never seen school teacher act this way before.
M Elliot,
lexton.net doesn't seem to look like its shutting down.

Look Johnny. You posted before that sites couldn't discriminate against websites, well they can choose which sites they want to host. You just said it yourself so why the HELL DID YOU BRING IT UP? Are you on drugs?
How can it be a scam? You have no arguements for this, it makes absolutely no sense. So if a site doesn't host you, they're a scam? No. So if a Site's webmaster is busy it's a scam? So if a Guy is nice enough to spend time helping people with their websites, it's a scam? If a webmaster goes and buys an ultrafast Dual 1GHZ server it's a scam? Well I think your mind is a little corrupted, eh? Look @ what you've wrote. You sound like a Moron. Suck kids? Do you know know English? It doesn't seem like it. Again, I feel sorry for you. Your life is really going to suck when you have to support yourself.

For those who support S4W and those who think that it is a scam, we are on opposite sides of the fence for obvious reasons. Those who are hosted by S4W were lucky. Some even said that they don't even have to sign up for the sponsors. So naturally, you have to come and defend S4W. Well, for those lucky ones, you have to understand that I think that it is a scam because I received in my email a reply that said that I am "supposed" to sign up in order to get my account set up. You can see the replies my in my previous post. Now, I got angry because I spent the time signing up for at least 10 of those affiliates but was accused of not signing up. I BELIEVE that if you were in my position, you would feel the same way. I have nothing against having people to sign up for affiliates because I have posted messages in the past in this forum suggesting that free web hosts should have members sign up for affiliates in order to keep the hosting up & running. I have defended many free web hosts when others doubt them because I believe that free web hosts are very generous to have offer other people free web hosting. But this time, I have to write a bad comment about S4W because I felt cheated, not because I did not get hosted, but because I was accused of not signing up when in fact I did. There is nothing worse than being wrongfully accused.
I have in the past earn money from commissionjunction.com and linkshare.com and know how these things works. They usually update the stats of sign-ups very quickly and often in real time. All I asked in my email was how many I have sign up when they accused me of not signing up and instead I got a sarcastic reply claiming that I did not sign up and thought that I was lying. I would not have been angry if they just be nice enough to reply in a more professional manner.

I find it rather odd that NONE of the longstanding (ie. more than 20 posts) members of FWS.net forums have not had sucess at S4W. Considering we are normally the first ones to try any hosting out.
Oh, also just noticed that the site seems to be down? Pitty that.
And a special note to Truth:
I find your use of the terms "retard" and "dyslexic" when flaming someone very disturbing. People with such condititons (and thats what they are, and I don't wish them apon anyone) would have more compassion and good old human spirt then you seem to have shown within this forum.
BTW: I also got scammed.

First of all Johnny the teacher went to jail because he came into school drunk and attacked students, he also spoke the way you do... Strange coincedence.
Second of all, I'm talking about TRYOUTS as I pointed out explicitly before. If you want to be on a good team, you have to be good. Same goes for hosting, if you want to be hosted, you need a good site. That's not discrimination. Even if it WAS discrimination, it's his own server so he has every right to discriminate... The fact is, if you want that, you have to have a good site, and calling that discrimination is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. Your site probably just sucks.

Jonny, before you start saying you were scammed maybe you should notice that your entire site consists of a whopping three images! Why would anyone want to host a site with no content? Maybe you're just bitter that people don't want to host sites for free that don't even include anything.
I want to know actually how people were scammed, and being refused hosting on account of being a total --- does not count as a spam, like Johnny said.
And s4w.com is not shutting down, they just used too many resources on their server, which means they are a very successful site, if you ask me...

Johnny you asked me to explain and I did. The only time I've seen a teacher talk the way you do is when they are drunk and crazy.
Also about your "peewee" crap.. Do you live in England or something? Because here in America the best players make the best teams, unless you are four years old and playing T-Ball. That's the way that it works. If you want to be on the best team you have to be good. It's even like that for admittance into leagues.
Basically you are saying that the NHL discriminates when some players don't make it into it. I think not...
Johnny
June 17th, 2001, 20:21
O M G!!! next time read before you respond.. why you think there is a B and C team.. or sometimes a another league for people who don't make it! duh!!!
That story doesn't have to do with teacher get arrested for coursing ok?! Thats what i was saying.. you or some guy say that teachers jail for cursing they don't!
Well NHL, NBA, and those other stuff are all provide orgainisation! They like sadeem husin, who wtf they want, the coach curse at ref. $8,000 fine for the coach, give a middel finger to the audience, $2000 fine.
I don't where you live, but in America where I live, that is how it is! why you think peewee leagues are non profit orgainizations!
Hell NBA,NHL is so private they can even discriminate agains't whites or black if they want.
And you even notice that NHL no black players! (expect 1)
NBA no white players. (expect 20)

Johnny I was using NHL as an example. Many leagues in my state function in the same way... Real discrimination, huh? And NHL doesn't "not allow" blacks into it, just not many black people play hockey. (there's 3 by the way - Mike Grier, Anson Carter, and a goalie for Edmonton who's name I can't think of but his first name is Fred)
S4W will be back up when he gets his own server.
