View Full Version : Reliable host needed

I'm wondering if someone can recommend me a reliable, established, fairly large hosting service. I don't need too many features, SSI and CGI would be nice, or PHP on its own would be fine too, and not much space and bandwidth would be needed. I don't want to pay too much though, and reliability is the main thing I'm looking for. Its just going to be the site of a local music school, so I don't need anything too fancy.
I'm thinking I would 15$ monthly tops for something, is that reasonable? Or is reliable stuff way more expensive?
Thanks in advance...

You should be able to get something of good quality for $15 / month. It really does depend on how much space / bandwidth you are looking for. Could help a bit more with this info.

Well, the reason I didn't say anything is that I'm not really sure. I live in a mid-sized Canadian city, and its just for a local music school, so I don't think I need much space. Under all normal circumstances, I shouldn't top 100mb space (and probably won't even approach that), and not much bandwidth either. The only thing is that my boss was considering streaming an video interview from the local TV station, which would take more space and bandwidth (this is where I'm not sure). If you could reccomend for the normal scenario, I would be grateful.

For what you will need, that should get you a decent provider with good reliability and support. Many providers offere multiple plans so upgrading (more disk space and bandwidth) if needed is no problem.
From experience and/or research, in no particular order, you may want to take a look at the following providers.
Hostmatters.com (http://hostmatters.com/web_hosting.html)
F5hosting.com (http://www.f5hosting.com)
Rochenhost.com (http://www.rochenhost.com/multiple-domain-hosting/)
Myacen.com (http://www.myacen.com)
Affordablehost.com (http://www.affordablehost.com/cpanel.shtml)
All are well established professional hosting providers. Not kiddie hosts.

Is Site5 a reputable host? They seem to have a great deal on right now... but I haven't really heard about them before. Does anyone know if they're a good service?

I've read good and bad about Site5 but have no personal experience with them. I know the "deals" look attractive (you won't need that much resources most likely) many times but long term is what you want. I personally would not suggest them from what I know and have read. Not saying anything bad about them but I think you can do better. It's up to you.
