Digitalrice just disabled SSI and PHP, so I finally decided to leave and transfer to Portland. But then it turns out that Portland is going through a major downhill slide -- as bad as DR's, in fact, so I can't even FTP my site to their servers.

I need SSI, CGI, and free domain hosting, without banner ads (Popups or text links preferred, since I don't want my layouts broken.)

So I went for Xoasis, signed up, and am transferring my domain to them. Did I make a good choice?

NETCABINS! I'M LOST WITHOUT YOU!

(My CC is still "pending," darn it.)

I think you should keep looking. In the past, things didn't always work at Xoasis including customer service.

*lol* I can imagine it... "We're sorry, but our customer service is currently under construction" or "temporarily disabled due to abuse" etc. :D

I think Xoasis.com's CGI is bullsh*t. I've tried before, and I've tried just recently now on my old account trying to get perl scripts to work. Still the same thing. I've tested CGI & PL extensions in the main directory transfered ASCII CHMOD 755 or 777 doesn't work it displays the script all in plain text. I put them in other directorys, and does the same thing. I put them in a CGI-BIN and no matter what it will redirect to this page http://www.xoasis.com/benefits.html.. does that for any file in the CGI-BIN actually.

NetCabins should be back in mid-July. Until then, you could try http://www.vr9.com as it looks like they have just about everything you need. Not sure about their ad policies.

Thanks, Tom. I'm looking over VR9 now.

Back in Xoasis-Land, I tried uploading a transitional index page via FTP, and it still hasn't shown up on my site. Annoying.

Before that, I went for a brief stay at Portland, but I had to email them twice just to get my welcome email, and then their FTP went down. Bleh.

Good news: Portland's back up to speed, and since I'm in a different time zone, I'm usually on their FTP at off-peak hours. :D Occasional downtimes haven't been a serious problem. Yet. So I'm happy for the time being, while I wait for my nameserver info to propagate.
