Have you tried any of the freeware HTML WYSIWYG editors? Then you wouldn't be tied to web hosts who offer their own editors.

I really don't know. When I started, I just started copying the VIEW SOURCE of pages I liked, and started writing my own code in NOTEPAD. That never seemed so hard as to drive me into the WYSIWYG camp. But, there seem to be a lot of WYSIWYG editors out there, so a lot of people must be using them.
A bunch of them seem to be FREEWARE. Why don't you give a couple a try and see if they "fit."

I have a suggestion: Mambo

Please don't ask me how to use it, because I have not used it; however, I've heard from others that they really like it :-)
Jerry gave a good suggestion. You could search for "freeware" html editors at sites such as tucows.com, cnet.com & zdnet.com
If you don't like html, then don't download a "freeware" program called "Web-O-Rama." I used to use that & actually I liked it, but I had a good grounding in html theory prior to downloading that particular editor. I don't use it anymore. Even back in 1998 (when I first downloaded it) there was a "nagware problem." The nagware may or may not have become worse.
I now use Dreamweaver.

Try geocities... If you don't want ads, copy the code when the page is ready and move to another server.
