Results are sorted easier and somebody can remain anonymous if he wants (maybe someone is 30 and acts like a 12 year old in the forums and he doesn't want others to know his/her age.. you can never know)
by the way, I am 23 .. maybe one of the oldest !!

Why do you think some people don't want others to know their age? Maybe because they feel bad that a teenager can know more than they do in some subjects discused here?

I think one of the nice things about the internet is that you don't need to know these things about people (or them know about you) it removes a lot of our prejudices.

does it matter? people will judge me on what I write here.
if you met me in reality those things would affect how you saw me however unprejudiced you are
(I know these things affect how I see people :( I wish they didn't but they do)


On the people knowing more than me.

if I know something that someone wants to know - I'm happy to tell them - as long as it doesn't involve too much typing or I'm not in the mood.

If I don't know something - hopefully others can tell me :)

I would much rather the people who come here knew more than me because then they are of more use (for me getting info out of them)

I come here because I learn some useful things. Mainly by helping people who are stuck - that's how I learn best.
I know some stuff about coding I'm happy to share that

I also enjoy some of the 'pathetic banter' (my quotes) that goes on here. It entertains me.
I have been involved in it - some may see it as childish but I want to keep the child in me alive as long as I live
I can be adult about things too - when I need to be ;)

If peoples egos are so fragile that they can't cope with a kid knowing more then them that's sad

but, I think most people don't feel the need to prove anything so why bother telling people how old you are

I agree ... but sometimes you get pissed off with that "idiot" that writes a ton of bull---- , if you knew that he/she is not idiot but just a 12 13 or 14 year old then you would show more understanding and wouldn't get pissed with his/her ----.

On top of that I don't see any reason why hiding or faking things like your age genter or race. If some people don't like who you are thats their problem and not yours ... except if you don't like who you really are either.

Gayowulf, age matters because it makes a difference if the person you are talking to is 12 or 30. (Althought some teens here think they know everything)

If someone's got something useful to say good - I'm not going to dismiss it because they are too young/old

No, as you have probably noticed I talk to everybody.
But age, unlike religion, race gender etc does matter in the way you treat others. In real life I wouldn't treat the same way a person of my age with lets say a 60 year old guy. I wouldn't feel good attacking a person with age of me father, or a child that could (almost) be my kid. At the same time if I was doing that to a person about my age it wouldn't be a big deal.
Some people because of the anonimity that internet offers forget and don't care about these unwritten laws. But for me they still matter, and maybe for some other people also.

I don't know if Gayowulf is gay or not and I don't care. The nick sounds totally gay anyways. I don't know if this bothers him or not, but again I don't care since he didn't care to show some more respect to me (through his reaction to my post).

Also, the post had a clear name. If you don't care why bother clicking on it, and even write a reply in that ofencive manner??? There are mods here and if they thing that a post does not belong here they will remove it.
