It is gcsnet.net! Man i wanted to break the news but Someone beat me to it.
I won't go with them, they are offering the same thing as before. They will go down again. Rememeber when they first started they had the same restrictions and they relaxed it afterwards.

maybe they might do what spaceports does and they'll give more space piece by piece in order to keep up with demands.

Greetings,
Ultrabitt.com is not gcsnet.net. gcsnet went bankrupt several months ago due to legal issues and is no longer in operation. Ultrabitt purchased their domain name and adopted part of their business plan, hoping to do what they couldn't. None of the old gcsnet.net staff (8 employees) work for the new Ultrabitt.com hosting service.
On behalf of gcsnet.net we must apologize for their lack of business sense, inconveniencing several webmasters as a result.
Ultrabitt is different. We offer more features than most paid hosting services. And if there is a feature we don't offer, we'll get it for you. We absolutely guarantee uptime. Popups are cookied at 10 days. Our servers are prepaid for at least 12 months, so we won't be gone in a week.
Unfortunately, what we offer is expensive. Servers cost $1000-$3000 each, colocation is another $300 monthly per server, and bandwidth is $1.50 per gigabyte -- and we transfer LOTS of data.
Other expenses include software licenses, office costs, and employee wages.
This is why we require 200+ unique daily hits to qualify for our service. As everyone knows, advertising just doesn't pay what it used to. Fortunately we have a great contract with a large advertising agency and can cover most expenses at this 200 hit baseline.
If you have any questions you can e-mail us at support@ultrabitt.com -- I will try and cover the public forums as much as possible but time limits dictate how often I can check this board.
Thank you,
David

I don't even get near that amount of visits a day... I only get 60-80, probably more when my new site is up.

Why would somebody that:
A) Owns a domain
B) Has a site that gets 200 visitors a day
Want to be hosted by them? I mean... what is it 15 bucks a year for some real hosting plans that have no ads? Come on...
Ultrabitt

Free domain hosting is quite popular, and webmasters with high-transfer sites cannot always afford to pay for bandwidth.
One site we host uses around 40 gigs of transfer per month. A cheap $15/yearly hosting plan can't cover that. The webmaster is also 16 years old and can't afford any paid hosting.
Thanks,
David

Do you have a control panel? Also, how much web space and bandwidth do (or can) you provide?
Ultrabitt
June 21st, 2001, 21:21
The control panel is Cpanel 3. Burst provides a demo of it at http://sample.burst.net/cpanel/ (l: sample p:sample).
We can offer you up to 1000 megabytes of space, but you must justify such a request.
Thanks!

I am quite familiar with CPanel3, lovely program. Is there a bandwidth limit at which point you would start charging?

Why did you shut down gcsnet.net suddenly without even a notice?

June 21st, 2001, 23:18
You don't understand, lastactionhero. They are NOT gcnet. This is another company that has bought the domain, the business idea and are kind enough to also keep the staff.
Why do you apologize for the (other) company going bankrupt? Wouldn't it be more in place to apologize because the members weren't notified?
LastActionHero
June 21st, 2001, 23:48
oh! I didn't know that! :o I take back my question

June 22nd, 2001, 00:06
True, we are not gcsnet.net. Meow, we actually didn't retain any gcsnet staff.
There is no bandwidth limit, providing your site has the traffic. We won't give a site with 200 hits a day 200 gigs of transfer, but if your site received 10,000 hits that would be acceptable.
Thanks

I understand. My problem is i need much more than 1000 megabytes worth of web space. As well, the more space i have the more visitors i would have. I just havent fount the right solution as of yet. And understandably you couldnt offer what I need, but it was worth a shot anyways.

Ultrabitt

Right now a 640x480 popup window cookied once per week (7 days). I'll post some of our member's sites soon.

Just to clarify something, our ads are generally cookied from 7-30 days. Please note this if I give different figures in different posts. Each site we host is different (cookie length is somewhat based on traffic).
Thanks

That would be his Xit Exchange popup -- not ours. Also, we never spawn additional popups.
