I'm trying to learn HTML from a book, but it's rather cryptic. Where can I go online to learn HTML in an easy format that teaches me what I need to know quickly?

usually books are bookish :) they talk too much of things and don't focus on what you only need to learn. follow aki's tip ^. i also started with WYSIWYG editors and along the process learned every single code now, its easier for starters than looking at the code all at once w/o experiecing it first.

I looked at Dreamweaver MX, and it costs much more than I care to pay for HTML skills. Coupled with the problem that the my sys admins don't like to users (me) installing software on the computers, I don't think this is an very viable solution.
I have tried WYSIWYG website editors before, but I'm not sure how this helps me with my HTML.
Does anyone know of anything in the line of HTML-teaching websites?

Is that the only machine you have access to? As it's just a sys admins job to stop it you probably don't have enough privilages to install software.
From that I'm just guessing your stuck with a text editor, it's the good old hard grind, not a bad way to start if your serious.
The online web ones won't help you unless you can view the code.
Google is probably best for online help, if you can get the 'Dummies Guide to HTML' it's about £7 GBP but the books approach is friendly and informal as all the 'Dummies' books are and don't take the title personal it's meant as a bit of a laugh for the whole series of books - on EBay you could probably pick one up really cheap. :-)

Thanks for the link, kabatak, I think that'll be a great place for me to get going.
The only other computer that I have access to is my Linux PC, for which dreamweaver isn't designed. As to the online hosting sites, I try to stick to the ones that allow for direct HTML editing, and they work pretty well.
I'll definitly have to use Google and check out that Dummies book, too.
Thanks for your help! :-)
