When people select a free or paid webhost what country do you prefer the server to be? Do you require your actual host to be located in the same place as your server? Do you want your webhost in the same country as you?

Argentine hosts though good are too expensive... the free ones are not so great either despite Buenos Aires having one of the highest connection to the internet rates in the world.
I choose an American one, preferably I like Unix or Linux hosts instead of NT Hosts. They tend to be a bit more stable.

If it's stable and got a good connection shouldn't matter too much
unless all your users are in one place
for a local interest site you want it near where people live cos it's faster but for the world people could be next door or the otherside of the planet

I don't think it matters. I've seen some posts from people that think it does though. I don't really have the alternative to host locally, so what I think doesn't matter. ;)

I prefer servers that are near where most of vistors are. That probably means North America...
I also want to host my host on a server that is known to be "internet savvy." After all, who wants to host a site that has only one limited pipe in and out to the backbone?

all my visitors are localized, from New York City only. that's a major problem for finding hosting.
