I'm thinking about making a FWP, and want to know a place where I can find info about operating systems.
Thanks...

you ought to get real familiar with the "os" b4 you try to start a here today gone tomorrow fwp. if you have a problem the server and cant fix it what will you do? huh? alot of ppl will be very very angry if you cant deliver. so you better think long and hard of the costs and risks of having a fwp

Linux and Net/Free/open BSD are like most FWPs, here today, gone tommorow. Linux is already losing momentum to the *BSDs, and something will come along tomorrow to do the same to it.

My vote goes for MacOS 9 using WebStar. It's a surprisingly nice server, and there's a lack of Mac-powered FWPs now, so that would draw some attention. (and I love working with MacPerl and Applescript, and would love to be able to do it for FREE)

I ran a MUD on MacOS and one on NT, and the MacOS server was 10x better.

If you don't want to set up Macs, there's always PCs running Win2k, which isn't too bad.

Or you could just use *BSD/Linux.

I'm hyper. Sorry.

If you want an alternative, try Atheos Atheos (http://www.atheos.cx/) (it used to be called Altos until the author realized he was violating a trademark). Their website runs entirely on an Atheos system last time I checked.
