Posting Stickies!

Hey guys, I was thinking a little way of you guys can make some extra money for your forum. Allow users to "sticky" their topic for a week or so and charge what, $5 for a week? Or whatever sounds good to you guys. It'd be sticky in 1 forum for 1 week and that sort. I think you guys know what im talking about. :)

That wouldn't work -- stickies seem to be reserved for rules, it would only cause confusion.

Not really JMiller, Many other bigger sites than this (www.webhostingtalk.com) do it and they're sucessful. It'd help the site out, not that it needs it, but a little extra money never hurts. :)

Umm, WHT places ads in 'announcements', not stickies. There's a difference.

Very few read the important stickies we have now :( If we allowed sticky advertising, it would certainly cost more than $5 a week ;)

Usually, stickies go unnoticed. Like me for instance, I don't know why, but I automatically bypass the stickies. I never notice them until the day it unsticks and becomes a regular thread, if ever.

bypassed or not, some people still manage to read them. $5 isn't that much anyway, so I don't see it as a bad idea. If there was a way to distinguish between a rule sticky and a bought sticky, I think it could work. There would have to be some rules to follow though, as to exactly what you're allowed to post.

I personally think it's a good idea, as some people do read them... And wouldn't be as annoying as banners on top of each forum
