View Full Version : Setting up a small business online

I have had a site online for a year or so. I recently cancelled my domain name and service provider because of difficulties accessing mail accounts and some other communication difficulties.
I would like a simple hosting service, with domain registery, and if possible a service that will register and upkeep my site with search engines.
I am running a small gallery in Japan and am looking into site registery here. I think, however, that what is available in the states is much more appealing. there is so much I am just not sure where to apply.
Lastly, what US company may offer the best online credit card account services for business based in Japan? Credit card sevices here are close to 5% as far as i can tell. I appers cheaper in the States. But does that make banking transactions more difficult?
Thank you.

I think that you might want to check out revecom.com or instabill.com . They accept international merchants, and I think their rates are quite low.

Yeh they take 10% of every order that you make, but they give it back to you 6 months later, very good service I use them!

Yeah, I used to use instabill.com , but now using revecom.
There's no such thing as the best web host. Most web host specialize in certain things and not everything. So you can only find the best web host for your needs. And it depends on your requirement. For example, low budget, don't need advance features etc...

There are going to be MANY hosting companies that fit what you need. The best advice I could give is possibly doing a search based on criteria (disk space, dollar amount, etc) in a few places such as
www.webhostdir.com
www.hostsearch.com
These places will return hosts fitting those specs. THEN it will be up to you to check them out, and this is an ideal time to come back to the forum and post for opinions on the particular companies. You can also check these 2 directories for 'user comments' If there are any on the company, then definitely check those out.
Do not choose an UNlimited host.....and much luck in your search, and success in your business.

And after you've got some good hosts on your mind, try to ask for comments in forums like this one and see if they are really trustworty, reliable etc...

Somehow this message was posted elsewhere....
Thanks for the continuing messages. I've looked on the web hosting sites that Martie suggested. There is a lot out there. E-commerce seems like where I want to be. I sent long mails to the people at instabill and revecom. Thanks donovan. Revecom got right back. I liked their site, clear and to the point. But it isn't clear whether they offer webhosting. And they cost a bit?? Instabill presentation was clear, but I haven't herd anything. I sent a rather desciptive email of what I wanted. Maybe too much?
I'm getting the feeling that even though I wanted to go with one company to provide all the services of hosting, merchant accounts, design assistance and search engine ranking assistance, that it may be better to rely on different companies.
Most of the companies that appeared on hostsearch.com were pretty standard in their merchant account offerings 2.35%. In fact the same info could be found on several sites. It seems that although they offer merchant account assistance they are mainly webhosts.
In terms of just getting a domain, anyone know anything about Netfirms?
I also joined webhostingtalk.com. This seems to be very similar to this site. Lots of the same people and the signup format was almost exactly the same. Any connection?
Thanks.

Is there a bug on this forum or what? I think I saw the message for 4 times. 2 in this thread, and 2 in two other new threads.
By the way, ValuableHost, his post which is edited, is still in your message. I guess you are helping him to break the rules indirectly :p
