Wikicities (http://www.wikicities.com/) offers free wiki hosting (http://www.wikicities.com/wiki/Start_a_new_Wikicity) for anyone wanting an editable site for their community.
All wikis are hosted as a subdomain of Wikicities.com and all use the MediaWiki (http://www.wikicities.com/wiki/MediaWiki) software, which is used by Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/) and its sister projects.
There is a creation policy (http://www.wikicities.com/wiki/Wikicity_creation_policy) which explains what sort of sites are permitted.
The site was launched in November 2004 and currently hosts over 150 wikis.
