Hello, I'm having a problem with some memory I bought. I have a piece of crap Dell Dimension 2350 (an old computer I have in a different room at home, thought I'd give it some life). It only has 128 MB memory. I bought a 256 MB stick and intalled it with the 128, I had 384, goin good for an hour all of a sudden programs start closing by themselves...so I go to the bathroom, come back and a blue screen is up:

Anyone know what the problem could be?

well i have a guess of wat the problem could be, cuz on my dell, i bought 512mb ram for it and it said my memory was limited to only 256mb, so i had when i reboot the comp and its loading i pressed a button f sumthing i forgot mayb f12 or sumthing then i had to turn something off so that the memory isnt limted, thats probaly the solution but its just a guess so idk

Can you remember anymore than that? Does anyone else know?

could be lots of things

ram speed does not match, ie pc2300 =/= pc1000
bad ram, test the stick in another computer
check on dell's website for max ram you can put
try getting into bios (del key on my old dell), run memory test
start up in safe mode, see if it crashes,
etc

i'd say its bad ram.

i had this problem with stick of 256mb, so just run the computer until it crashes with one stick at a time, whicheve crashes first, or has the same blue screen, is the culprit.

I'd pull out the original and stick in two identical sticks...the timings might be conflicting, you never know.

Could this be my problem? The original memory stick is 133MHz. The new one I bought is at 266...could this be whats causing it?

Erm, yeah, see that's the problem. One's DDR SDRAM (266), and one is just plain ol' SDRAM (133).

See, that was my first guess :p
