Hello
My computer was doing fine until I boot it up this evening and got a message edtitled and with the message:
<Windows Registry Checker>
"Windows encountered an error accessing the registry.
WIndows will repair the registry for you and restart the computer"
THere's only an okay button. I clicked ok but the problem still persists in the next boot up to Windows Me.
What should I do?
Somebody please help

Thank you

You should reinstall Windows immediately, I had the same problem. Do you have a startup disk? If so, do the standard procedures in reinstalling windows.

oh~~~
my god...

I have the start up disc but
would reinstalling windows lead to any loss in programs and data?

I've seen someone's computer which just reinstalled windows. The programs and files are still in there but the registry doesn't have any record of the programs.

Thanks.

I don't know about windows ME, but on 98, you can reinstall windows with or without formatting the hard drive.

Ive had this problem before, theres a utility that will revert your registry to a certain date since it backs up every day...now i just have to think of it...ok took me a while, but heres how you do it... http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q273/8/94.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0&qry=corrupt%20registry&rnk=4&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=W98 it happened to me a while back on win98 after my brother downloaded and ran a virus, so that might be what happened to you.

Thank you(all of you):)
the problem is solved now. I imported a backup reg file which I backup manually in the past. Strangely, programs installed after the backup was still visible in the start>programs and in the control panel>ad/remove programs.

I tried to restart the computer and it worked!

Still, if it wasn't for you all, I'd may still be having this com problem.;)

Thanks again all!
