Moved.in is a new invitation based web hosting service. Currently only existing members can invite new members.

The terms of service are strict but a benefit for existing members as reliable hosting is worth more than a host which goes down after a few months.

The current account specs are:

- 150 MB web space
- 5 GB bandwidth / month
- cpanel x / fantastico
- 3 mySQL databases
- 1 PostgreSQL database
- Full FTP access
- yourname.moved.in subdomain
- No advertisements

We have a friendly community where existing members share invitations -meaning it is not really hard to get one if you have an existing site.

We are not a forum or file host. Our service is designed for webmasters who need more than just basic hosting. Therefore our rules are more strict but a benefit for existing members.

We do not allow content other than english - not because we want to turn down people but more to be able to understand what the content is about if there are any complaints. We are aware many people will hate us for this but we believe communication is very important if issues come up.

We are around since more than 6 years but this service is a new one (the recent opening of inregistry.in made us start such a service).

New members will randomly receive invitation credits which they can give to friends or to new users seeking for an invitation in our forums or 3rd party swap forums.

Complaining about our strict rules won't help to lift rules as there is a reason behind every single rule. All our accounts are scanned daily to find abusive content. There are also mail protection scripts in place to see if mail features are abused - daily. If you plan to use our service to do anything illegal don't bother cause your account won't last longer than a day.

As said before, this is a service for serious webmasters and not for people who love to abuse services. Again, this offer won't help you much if you are looking to host things like phpnuke or your forum as we are not a forum or phpnuke host.

I am sure this service will be helpful to many serious webmasters, even if it sounds very strict at the first peak :)

Interested webmasters should have a look at our TOS (http://moved.in/?move=tos) and also at our Community (http://moved.in/support) in case they want to give it a shot.

The reason for invitations is abuse. Our service (for example) would punish the user who invites an abuser. This way people will select new users more carefully as they don't want to lose their account.

As for invites: There are many swap sites where you can get invites and I am sure once a freewebspace user has invites left he/she will invite other freewebspace users who need one :) Another option is joining our contests or simply asking our existing members by following the "Request Invitation" link on our site.

Yes, I believe more and more invitation based services will come up soon. It's really the best way to fight abuse. Just think about the benefits. Nobody would ever invite a spammer or people with abusive sites as people will always worry about their own account. That will help a lot because the "support team" can actually provide support instead of scanning 100 new accounts per day (thats a common number if you signup at non-invitation hosts).

We also noticed that a great community builds up as people care for eachother. This results in members helping members. Like these friendship groups - just that hosting is the topic. Let's see how it goes. Thank you for all your comments so far. Im sure many will hate it due the strict rules (I said that before) but then again there will also be happy people who will enjoy it a lot. You cannot make everybody happy - sad but true.
