I've been quite satisfied with spaceports for the last few months but in the last 2 hours, this big ugly ad frame has appeared on all PAGES. I remember this happening 3 months ago but it was fixed within the day. The Ad frame was because their default ad server had gone down. Any have any idea whats up this time?

Are you sure you have the ad code properly inserted on your pages? If you do, then I'd say it's a problem with their servers. E-mail spaceports support or post a message in their forums. If this is a wide-spread problem, then there's bound to be numerous threads already started about it.

No, you haven't done anything wrong Archbob. It's just their new banner policy. That's why I'm leaving that place, until everything is back to normal again. *sigh*

now you have to pay $20/year to remove all the ads...

Yes, this is so sad... :(
Time for me to look for a new host. *sigh*

Damn, their ad-frame is huge. Good thing I left free hosting when I did.

The more advertising is obsessive, the less its results are. Probably the heads of those guyz spin. When we will be at the downmost point of free Internet's collapse?

Here's the official message:

As many of you are aware, the value of online advertising has plummeted in the last year. As a result, the single 468x60 banner many of you have placed on each of your pages is no longer generating enough revenue to cover the expenses of hosting your sites. Consequently, we will be forcing the placement of our ad frames on all Spaceports web sites. For those of you without the 468x60 banner code on your pages, nothing will change at this time. The ad frames you have on your site now will remain the same. For those of you who were using the 468x60 banner code, this will no longer prevent the ad frames from appearing; however, we will continue to operate our reimbursements program for those of you who want to continue to earn revenue from these banners. Please note that you are no longer required to use the 468x60 banner code if you do not want to participate in the reimbursements program.

Yeah, I thought it was there to stay. I moved my entire site to www.10mbfree.com . All they have is a pop-up that loads behind your page when your visitors go to it, I can live with that.

Normally I go along with the, "It's alright, they need to make money" but... loL! These things are hideously large!!!

Hahaha!

I switched my monitor to 640*480 and you can barely even see the actual site. Hehe.

Mind you, the $20 a year sounds good. Does that get rid of ALL banners? $20 a year for 20 gig bandwidth and unlimited space? That'd be sweet. hehe.

Yeah it gets rid of all the ad banners for one year. It's sweet but it's stupid when they're a free host and they're basically "forcing" users to pay up $20.00.

---they're a free host and they're basically "forcing" users to pay up $20.00

So we should consider them as a paid hosting now. FWS has lost in the frame.
Toefur - they don't give unlimited mySQL space. And access to cgi.spaceports too strange for a normal paid hosting.
Though must be they will exist having fast servers and good experience in the new role.

Crosswinds' pop-up ads are preferable to Spaceports' big --- adframe. NBCi had a reasonable size adframe, Spaceports' adframe just screams, "Help us! We need you to pay us for hosting if we want to survive!"
