okay here goes, my site address is http://www.otashki---------- it takes forever to load now since I change the layout, it takes about 1 min to load which is very long, so I was thinking is there a way to speed it up? also any1 know whats causing it to slow down? I don't think it is the image because last time in my old layout it was 70kb now its only 54kb and last time it loaded fast, any ideas?:confused: :mad:

I'm on cable and it loaded quite quickly for me. It might take to long for the 56kers.

The button ad images on the bottom of the page are on other servers. I suggest downloading those 5 button ads and uploading to your own server instead of linking the images from another server because every time you connect to a different server it adds about 2 seconds.

As i said before it loaded pretty fast for me. And I doubt these little things will make a drastic speed difference, but it's worth a try.

I'm on ADSL and it loaded instantously. You could find an image compressor somewhere on Download.com, but for us high-end internet connection users it loads quickly.

I fixed a few things so can some1 prefrable if on 56k come and check how fast/slow it loads? 56kers do come in handy sometimes:D :D

The image at the very top of your page is 53K something. That's pretty heavy. What about compressing it and/or chopping it up in smaller parts?

Maybe cut them into square and then use table to join them

<TABLE BORDER="0" CELLSPACING="0" CELLPADDING="0" WIDTH="I don't know about your picture">
<TR>
<TD><IMG SRC="img01.gif"></TD>
<TD><IMG SRC="img02.gif"></TD>
</TR>
<TR>
<TD><IMG SRC="img03.gif"></TD>
<TD><IMG SRC="img04.gif"></TD>
</TR>
</TABLE>

Something like that~

for example if the size of my banner was 40kb
I split it into four parts 10kn each, would it load faster at all?

Here you go, weeeeep-on. :p;)

Note that the reduced image loads faster even if it's below the original (top) and starts to load later. To check properly you would need to put them on separate pages and clock them. Oh, empty your cache first.
BTW I think it could be compressed more without noticeable quality loss.

I'M NO BULLY! I'M KILLER KITTEN. :mad:

Agreed. I don't think PSP does a good job with compression either. I use a thing called Ignite. Not the best but better. It tends to speckle jpg's too much sometimes.

If you want I can make you a couple smaller ones. Only takes a minute. Do you think the quality id OK so far?

no any good compression programs that don't put speckles with jpgs? and bully do yah have ICQ?

meow
June 30th, 2001, 03:27
No, I haven't got ICQ. But if I had I wouldn't give my number to any whiny-weepers. So there. :p
Well, I did it since I got curious myself. It didn't work at that much higher compression but I kept going just for the fun of it. ;)

I've got email and the PM thingie and can sometimes be found here: http://www.yupapa.com/cgi-bin/chat/chat.cgi
It's a good picture. Have you made it? :)

Weapon

why wouldn't ya give it to me? anyways what ya mean if I have made it? if ya mean did I make it then yes I did what program ya using to compress it? know any that don't put speckles?

meow

I was joking. I haven't got ICQ. You have to use PM or email or the chat.

I use IGNITE (the one that speckles sometimes). I tried one once that could compress parts of a jpg. That was a pretty neat function but I didn't like other things about it. I saw a really advanced program that let you control a lot of things but I forgot to bookmark it. It cost a arm ad a leg anyway. So I'm afraid I don't have anything better up my sleeve.

If you want to check Ignite out it's here: http://www.ignite-it.co.uk/

You're pretty good with images. I wish I was. Which of the pics to you think is the smallest usable btw?

Weapon
June 30th, 2001, 05:02
what do you mean smallest usable?

meow
June 30th, 2001, 05:13
The compressed ones I posted. Which of them is the smallest (in kB) that you think still has acceptable quality?

Weapon
June 30th, 2001, 05:33
i think the third

meow
June 30th, 2001, 05:49
