I got this thing in my email today that said this:

Greetings Spaceports users!

As many of you are aware, the value of online advertising has plummeted in the last year. As a result, the single 468x60 banner many of you have placed on each of your pages is no longer generating enough revenue to cover the expenses of hosting your sites. Consequently, we will be forcing the placement of our ad frames on all Spaceports web sites. For those of you without the 468x60 banner code on your pages, nothing will change at this time. The ad frames you have on your site now will remain the same. For those of you who were using the 468x60 banner code, this will no longer prevent the ad frames from appearing; however, we will continue to operate our reimbursements program for those of you who want to continue to earn revenue from these banners. Please note that you are no longer required to use the 468x60 banner code if you do not want to participate in the reimbursements program.

We realize the ad frames can be quite intrusive, so we have come up with an alternative solution for those of you who want your sites to remain ad-free. For only $19.95 per year, or less than 6 cents per day, we will remove all of our forced advertising from your Spaceports web site. While many paid hosts charge a minimum of $5.00 per month for basic web hosting, and some free hosts even charge $10.00 per month or more for their "premium" service that removes ads, we feel that $19.95 per year is a more reasonable and affordable cost. You will still be able to enjoy all of the features we have to offer, including unlimited space upgrades, 20 gigabytes of monthly transfer, and CGI/PHP/MySQL support, without the annoying forced advertising that can intrude on your web site's appearance and functionality.

We believe this to be a temporary measure as we strongly believe the value of online advertsiing will return. Spaceports is a community and we hope we can rely on our users, the community, to make this project a viable web hosting alternative both now and into the future.

Another option worth considering is the purchase of a paid web hosting package through our parent company, Tera-Byte. Tera-Byte has a wide variety of packages available to fit almost any budget. For more information, please visit www.tera-byte.com.

If you have any questions regarding these changes or the ad removal option, please join our support channel at http://www.spaceports.com/java-irc.htm and we'll be glad to answer any questions you may have.

We understand that these changes are upsetting to many of you, as they are to us. Unfortunately, the current condition of the online advertising market leaves us with no alternatives, and we hope you understand.

Actually, with $19.99 per year, and the free dns service, this is a pretty good deal.

You get unlimited space (need approval) and 20GB bandwidth. I just couldn't find better offer than this one. I think it's much much better than homestead's new plan.

Come on guys sing it with me ok?

Dum Dum Dum, Another one bites the dust, *CLASH*.

Just when I thought spaceports couldn't get any lower they go and do this. lol. All they had to do was get rid of the 404's and they would have been fine. Many people left because of the 404 anonyance. Goes to show that SP is one of my hosts who just cannot last now-adays.

They made the mistake of putting all their hopes into advertising while they should of offer paid plans (Duh!).
