Hi, just curious if making a site with downloads for manga and anime episodes is legal. I want to make sure before i make any purchases. I don't want my host to cancel my site =). Thanks.

are those contents copyrighted? or you have legal rights to distribute them?
If those animes are copyrighted, you may not distribute them w/o the author's permission.

If everything is legal and you arent breaking anyone elses copyrights then by all means we will host you with no problems. Are you looking for hosting or just asking a question?

Its ok. Gotta learn somehow :) I'm not entirely sure on the whole anime thing but if you arent breaking any laws then I dont see why you shouldnt be hosted.

no, i dont tink so. for example naruto recently got licensed in america rite? ppl that hosted the files on america had to stop hosting it, bcuz it got licensed or copyright. but ppl that hosted it in a different location, dont need to worry bout it. so i guess unlicensed anime is not copyright. correct me if im wrong now.

You may want to have a look through this page (not a legal document as he states) it might help in the decision as to whether anime is copyrighted or under the same legislation as other media.
Japanese Animation Legality and Ethics FAQ (http://members.tripod.com/~AvatarHR/legalfaq.html)
I think it's a pretty fine line as far as being legal - for instance, the Anime might be under copyright in Japan, so how do you stop people from Japan from downloading? Allowing Japanese surfers to download the anime would be breaking the law ...technically... it's a hard one to call.

Come on guys! I know very much about anime, if the anime is licensed, that means it is illegal to distribute them. If the anime is unlicensed(not licensed) it is legal, I'm sure it can be distributed on file storing allowed paid hosts.

if it is unlicensed its fine to distribute, all you have to do is block all japanese users from downloading, once it gets licesed in america then you can STILL host it, you just need to block americans from downloading it.

should be the same with manga, you see everyone seems to think that the USA is the only country in the world so when something gets licensed in the USA all these hosts start babling about how its ILLEGAL to host it lol..
anyways, if you need anime or manga hosting PM me, i can give you a decent deal if you can pay $
