With all the wasted posts on the matter. Can you atleast censor the word unlimited. I think that may help some issues in a very simple manner. Not sure though if you are able to specialize it to certain sections of the forum, but if so, that could be a great help as well.

I LOVE that idea. There's a few problems, as of course, unlimited is a day to day word that comes into play in topics of varying nature, but when you hear that word here, you know what it means :p

Good suggestion. I think it would be better though to censor 'unlimited bandwidth' and a few similar terms, not just the word unlimited. For instance we don't block hosting companies from offering unlimited email accounts etc.

Change them to:

unlimited bandwidth = limited bandwidth
unlimited transfer = limited transfer
unlimited space = enough space
unlimited diskspace = enough diskspace
unlimited webspace = enough webspace

uhh, changing them doesn't work.
if you do that, you're just changing the user's post to say something that they wasn't intended.

censoring out the words is a much better idea.

Then that makes the post unuseable.

"Hi, we at xxx.xxx have ******* free space and ******* bandwidth for only 20 posts per month."

Now what good is that?

That's precisely the point... hopefully that would get people to stop posting such foolish things.

It's better to make the post unusable than to change the author originally intended to say.

You can't very well do that.

It's okay to edit out what a user said, but it's not okay to change what they said entirely.

u got a point jmiller :) but imagine the huge amount of work the mods at FWS will need to go thru each day! i mean most hosts go 'unlimited data transfer' - same goes for requests ;)

If the word gets censored, it's automated.

Censoring is a great idea, im sick to death of reading the word Unlimited.
Unlimited just does not exist, including Unlimited emails.

Not only does it not exist but its makes it harder
for REAL webhosting companys to make sales.

Without jumping on the band wagon and lying to the public, how can we compete against something that just does not exist, the people who post these offers should not only be censored but BANNED from the forum. Majority of them are not even PROPER COMPANYS. they are individuals pretending to be companys, some even have copyright symbols on there website.

Thats just my 2 cents worth.

Glad to see someone actually trying to do something about it.

Ryza, we can understand people being taken in by unlimited space and bandwidth promises, but I rarely see anyone requesting unlimited email, MySQL etc etc. Those who offer it won't sell a plan for offering that because I think even those who believe unlimited bandwidth exists, would figure out that unlimited emails, MySql etc would depend on the bandwidth allowed.

It would be a great idear to block unlimited, but as was said above, you might get some funny posts if you change the words:
from: some host
Hi.
We pride are selfs on the fact that we offer are users limited transfer, enough webspace, with everything else limited.

from: some customer
Hi. how much do you mean by limited transfer, and enough webspace?

from: some host

Hi.

As i said, we offer you limited transfer, and some webspace, and yes, we offer limited emails, subdomains and databases to!

Could be funny.

And that's why RangerOfFire's plan is flawed.

would it be possible to replace the word "unlimited" with a link?
then the user can click the link to show a page with information regarding unlimited posts and the original post is not ruined.
