Let's say I am using geocities.com for the novels I collected from the web. (free)

what's the best way to prevent hotlinkging?
Is there a way to password protect a directory at a free host like geocities?

Thanks.

you can try some java scripts...
they are not totally secure, but good if the person doesn't know the name of the directory you want to secure...
http://www.pageresource.com/jscript/jpass.htm
and
http://www.pageresource.com/jscript/jpass2.htm
worked for me

Don't think they prevent hotlinking. :(

I know there are some cgi scripts that prevent hot linking. you can try cgi.resourceindex.com and www.hotscripts.com .
Not sure if geocities supports cgi/perl.
