New site I'm working on: http://www.baseballsite.net

The news feed seems to delay the table it's in from loading for a couple of seconds, but I think the content is worth it.

Also, I always tend to use dark colors, but I'm not sure if that has to be considered a problem. Maybe a personal design constraint.

Any suggestions for ways to improve the design? Somehow it just doesn't look as good as I think it should.

ok here are a few ideas:

I agree the news feed is good

The site loaded quickly on my 56k modem

The user's attention needs to be drawn to the navbar on the left.
The blue baseballsite.net logo is unnecessary, and the image links in the navbar all look a little blurred. Maybe use a color other than green for these links and add this other color to the whole page. The color scheme you've got is ok (I can read the text - always useful!), but introduce something else (eg blue/ light green / olive) to add highlight and draw attention to certain areas.

For example, make the navbar on the left have a blue line running down its right hand side, have some kind of fade effect or something quirky round the buttons like 'resources' and 'discussions'. Re-use images and alternate them around the buttons - this needn't slow your site down much.

The width=15% and so on is good, but maybe make one side of the screen a different color, or somehow different.

The content and scripting seems very good to me - which is prolly the most important thing - Just needs a bit more color IMHO....

Also, an image on the main page would look good. If it was mostly mid-green (which I imagine it would be) it would complement the dark green down the sides; and it would add some horizontal line to the page.

And consider a colored scroll-bar. Play around with them - some look good on dark pages.

Good luck!

All is nice.
Except I think the arrow before the "Click here for news" needs to go and that link needs to be centered.

Also I don't know, but to me that baseballclicker is just plain annoying..

Change the main font to Verdana, arial, or tahoma

Thanks for the suggestions. I've made some changes and hopefully it looks a little better now.
