View Full Version : Transfer From DirectNic To Stargate

I have been trying to transfer two of my domain names from DirectNIC (which I have had no problems with up until this point) to Stargate, which I discovered by reading posts in this forum. I'm only doing the transfer because Stargate is about half the price of DirectNIC, and money is tight at the moment but I want to continue with these domains.
Anyway, I initiated a transfer through Stargate, and the first time it said that it couldn't do it. It just didn't go through for some reason. I waited about 24 hours and tried it again. This time it said that it did go through and I received emails from Stargate asking me to go to a URL to accept the transfer request. So I went to the page, put in the domain name and password sent in the email, then it asked for my daytime phone number. I entered that and then received an error that I couldn't transfer the domain due to it's current status, and to contact my current registrar for more information. I wrote to DirectNIC and they sent me to support@opensrs.org, because at the time the domains were registered they were still under Tucows. But DirectNIC said they didn't know of any reason that the request would not go through. So I wrote to support@opensrs.org and they also told me the domains are 'in good standing' so there shouldn't be a problem. Then they asked me for the specific error message I received so they could look into it, I replied and haven't heard back yet. Maybe I'm being impatient, but one of the domains expires on the 16th of this month and I'd really like to see it transfered out before I have to pay DirectNIC twice of what it would cost at Stargate.
This is the message I received from Stargate when the transfer was rejected:
Dear Administrative Contact:
Thank you for your online registrar transfer request to Stargate.
Unfortunately, your domain is unable to be transferred to Stargate at this
time, due to a non-acknowledgement from your current registrar. Please
contact your current registrar regarding this declined transfer, as your
domain has been placed on a holding status and is ineligible for transfer
at this time.
Thank you for your interest in transferring your domain to Stargate. We
look forward to the opportunity to service you in the future.
Sincerely,
Stargate Commmunications, Inc.
"Non-acknowledgement from your current registar" - I've attempted to have this go through twice now. Has anyone else experienced this? It says the domains are in a holding status, yet both DirectNIC and Tucows said that transfer should not be a problem. Anyone have any advice or insight into have this quickly resolved? I sent this info to support@opensrs.org, and I guess it's really up to them. Anyone?
Thanks,
Anastasia

Maybe because the domains are so close to expiriation?

I was worried about that with the first one, but the second one expires on August 23rd. I have more than 2 months left when this all started.

first if you did not pay anything give up stargateinc. their support speed is awful :(
I advise you to use www.GoDaddy.com.Also you do not have to fax anything at them and the price is 8.95 $ for a year :)

I am also having the similar problem.
This is the email I receive...
==============================================
Dear Administrative Contact:
Thank you for confirming the request to transfer {mydomainname} to Stargate. Unfortunately, your domain is not eligible for transfer at this time due to current status of your domain. Please contact your existing registrar regarding this status since Stargate cannot proceed with the transferring of your domain.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Stargate Communications, Inc.
==============================================
I hope they won't charge me as I have to enter in my credit card information in order to continue the transfer process but unsuccessful on the last part after verifying my email. :(

So my domains went through after all. I never did find out WHY I had the problems I did, as neither DirectNIC or Tucows cared to answer that question for me. But my last email from support@opensrs.org told me the domains had gone through. As of right now, both domains still sit in my DirectNIC account, and Stargate doesn't show anything in my account at all. But support@opensrs.com assured me that they are now registered through Stargate, Inc. I hope that's true, because only minutes after I heard from opensrs, I got an automated email from DirectNIC warning that one of those domains is 7 days from expiration.
My next step will be to get my three domains away from DomainZero. Thanks to another thread I managed to turn them all to 'active' from 'registrar lock.' Hopefully that means they will also go through.

anastasia, is everything ok with stargate now? can you access your domains in their control panel?
I have a couple domains registered at stargate, and I plan to transfer some of my domains from register.com to there but I am reluctant to do so now since seeing your thread.
I did have a couple issues with their URL forwarding feature, but their live humanclick support solved it for me right away. So I guess my experience with their support has been good so far.

Well, I was told the domains are at Stargate, but when I log into my account there, the page refreshes and there is nothing there. I would assume once I have domains showing in my account that it would take me to the control panel? When I check DirectNIC, the two domains in question are still showing in my account there. If I check either domain at register.com it can't supply me with the information. I'm thinking that means it's all in transition and hasn't been updated yet.
Anyone know how long it should take for a domain to show up in the account at the new registrar after a transfer? I have the email telling me, effective the 6th (today is the 11th) the domains are at Stargate. I'm waiting until I know this all works (and I can see the control panel at Stargate for myself, I've yet to get that far) before trying to transfer out my DomainZero names. Eventually all my domains will be in one place. I've been hoping that would be Stargate.

Just an update on this thread. When I look up my domains at register.com, now I get the following message:
No Data Available - Connection Established
When I go to my DirectNIC account, the domains are there. When I go to Stargate, I still get nothing. I think I'm going to go back to their live chat help and ask about this. Tucows told me that the domains were transferred as of 7/6, which is exactly one week ago. However, this entire thing has taken close to a month now. It's really weird and I'm starting to wonder.

No, that's not true. When you transfer a domain from one registrar to another, the amount of time you pay for at the time of transfer is added to the time remaining on the name where you originally registered it. I had one that was registered for me when I started a website (the web hosting company registered it for me) and I didn't like the registrar they used. So I transferred it out to my DirectNIC account. It had nearly a year left on it, and when I transfered it, another year was added to the time.
The Stargate website says it takes 'up to 5 business days' for the transfer to complete and the domain to show up in your account. That's 5 business days from the time you get your confirmation from them. My confirmation email was dated 6/27, which is now 18 days ago. Something weird is going on here. Hopefully it won't take them a week to respond. I might go back during the day and use their 'live chat' customer service and see what they have to say.

When I used stargate, I wanted to register 2 domains with the 8$/domain for 2 domains service. They said I needed to enter 2 unregistred domains, and both were not registred. I used gkg.net then.

There's a difference between transferring a domain and registering a domain. You can't register something you've previously registered or someone else has registered. In that case, if you already had ownership of the domain, you needed to use their transfer feature instead.

Have you tried looking up your domains in Stargate's Whois? Maybe they might show up there if they've transferred over. There might be a glitch in your account.

There doesn't seem to be a 'glitch' in my account. There are simply no domains in my account. I received an email today from support via the email system of the human click option from Stargate. This is the message I received:
Thank you for contacting Stargate Technical Support.
Both of these domains have been rejected. Either your current registrar did not comply within the alotted timeframe, or your registrar declined the transfers.
If you have additional questions, please contact Stargate Technical Support at support@stargateinc.com. We will be happy to help you.

However, on 7/9, I received this message from Tucows:
Hello,
These transfers have already been completed and your domains are at stargate INC and you will have to contact them if you require support for your domains.
Domain Name: ADRIAN-PASDAR.COM
Registrar: STARGATE COMMUNICATIONS, INC.

Domain Name: SELENAFAN.COM
Registrar: STARGATE COMMUNICATIONS, INC.
Whois Server: whois.stargateinc.com

Name Server: NS0.DIRECTNIC.COM

To top it all off, I paid my roommate to use her check card, and we checked her bank statement online, and she was charged FOUR charges of $8 from Stargate on 7/2.
At this point, I say stay away from this company. The selenafan.com domain expires tomorrow. Looks like if I want to keep it I have to shell out another $15 to DirectNIC. I assume there is no way out of that at this point.
I'm very unhappy with the support on both sides in this issue. They have both obviously made mistakes here. And as usual, they point the finger at each other.
So, powerpipe? GoDaddy.com? Which of the other low cost domain registrars can I actually trust?

Ouch, what a mess!
Since it already says "Registrar: STARGATE" under Network Solutions, doesn't that mean Stargate already has that domain (even though they "misplaced" it)? And won't that mean paying DirectNIC won't do you much good? :( I hope I'm wrong though...

This is like a never ending soap opera. I got another message from Stargate:

So I sent the requested information. And I checked with the whois at Network Solutions (something I hadn't previously thought of - I've always liked register.com, but I guess that's not the same) and they say the records were updated on July 6th, and show Stargate as the registrar.
So after this guy adds this information, I guess my domains should finally be set up with Stargate. I hope.

I received a reply to the message which had asked for all my information, telling me everything was set up and working in my account. I tried to log in, and still had the same problems. So I used the live chat support function on the site, and talked to one of their support team, who quickly sent me the same email again. I supplied the information to him (after venting my frustration about not them not being able to fix it correctly the first time I provided what they asked of me) and within 30 minutes both domains were in my account and everything was up and running.
The person I dealt with even provided me with his personal email address and said I could write directly to him if I had any problems in the future. I used to work as email support for a large website (over 12 million users) so I know that he knows how important a personal touch like that can be.
Although the transfer part is over, I still have to deal with billing. I was charged twice, and was told I will hear back from billing by the end of the work day on Tuesday. So hopefully that is true.
At this point I wouldn't suggest Stargate to anyone, but I wouldn't completely try to steer them away from the service either. I will probably transfer more of my domains to my Stargate account. For some reason the transfer didn't take when I used their system. Then a member of their support team tried to handle the problem for me, failed, and yet reported everything was fine. And of course there is that whole being billed twice thing. They seem to have several strikes against them when it comes to how they operate, however, their support has been polite (and relatively fast) and seems to honestly try to solve their customers' problems. It is frustrating, but when they really reply and fix the problems, it shows they do actually care. So in time the service may run better. But in the meantime, at least they do have qualified people on staff who will take care of what you need.
