I just tried to ftp today's new pages up to my site which is hosted on uk2.net.

The ftp failed with a message:

452 Transfer aborted. No space left on device.

As a side effect, they also deleted the online copies of the files that I was not able to upload.

My account is is good order and I am well short of my disk quota so I do not think that the problem is with me.

Anyone else having problems?

Anyone want to suggest a new host? My contract is up for renewal next month.

(Currently, I use about 12MB of space and generate 250MB of transfer. I do not use anything other than http and ftp right now.)

Over the next year, I am likely to double the disk space requirements and, if my traffic growth continues at the same rate, I will need about three GB per month within 12 months.

My wish list would include a cgi-bin, perl, php & my-sql but they are secondary issues.

Pricing is a bit secondary as my ad income covers the hosting costs though it does still come into the picture.

My advice move your website to http://www.ghoulnet.com .. excellent host use same servers as UK2.net and actually provide amazing support for the price they charge.

Your requirements will not be hard to find at all.
I am sure you will get board recommendations but you can also try doing a search at www.webhostdir.com
and see what results.
As always before signing up anywhere, do your best to check the host out FIRST, bfore signup.
Good Luck....and keep us posted.

Thanks to all for the comments.

I did email uk2 support and I received a fascinating reply.

They do not operate any quota system on their hosting service and they say that some of their other customers uploaded more data than they were allowed to and filled the disk space.

They have fixed that now and I have been able to upload my new pages but this still leaves me worried. It would appear that anyone can launch a denial of service attack on all uk2.net customers by signing up for a hosting account and uploading files until the disk is full.

I have some questions about the ghoulnet service so I am going to email them.

My main issue is that they only offer 5 gigs of bandwidth max. If my growth continues at the current rate then, while they offer enough for 12 months, I'd find myself having to move from their service at the end of next year.

Since I am not doing this in order to make eight bucks a month on 200MB of traffic, I want a host who can support the sort of traffic levels that I have in my dreams. :-)
