Hi,

I am a beginner in this field, and I have some questions about domains, please!

1- What is Redemption Period status for a domain? When does a domain go into "redemption period" status?

2- I want to register my own domain name for one year, but I will not use it before couple of months, so will that be OK? Can I register my domain name now and keep it for my website to be finished in a couple of months?

1) Redemption status is a period of time in which the domain name is expired but not released to the 'pool' of domain names that are available. Within this time, the owner can renew the domain with an additional redemption charge. The redemption period for Godaddy I know is around 30 days, I think it's the same with most other registrars.

2) Registrations are usually for a year, so if you buy it for a year, it is yours for the whole year until you renew it. What you do with it is up to you, so if you want to get it now so it's possibly not taken and work on the site and then put it up it's your choice.
