The newest versions are 3.0.8 and 3.5.0 beta. May i ask why it is not upgraded yet?

I'm not sure when 3.0.8 was released. But Todd and Peo like to give it a few weeks before upgrading to the lastest stable version to allow vB time to fix any bugs that it may have. The upgrade will happen, but when they both feel comfortable that it's as stable as 3.0.7 (which has no problems what so ever that I can see).

As far as the beta version, FWS will never use a beta version of vbulletin.

3.0.8 was released 2-3 days ago. The only forum i see that has updated was a-2z.com.

Exactly - you'll find that most, if not all large forums, upgrade a while after the new version is released so that a very stable and secure script is being used, and in fact some forums don't upgrade at all.

And anyway, I trust Peo's and Todd's decisions in these matters far above yours or mine, so what they want to do is probably best.

I just updated to 3.5 Release Candidate 1 yesterday, and so far only a couple of minor issues. Jelsoft need people to upgrade to iron out any bugs. But a forum of this size would be too risky. I can understand why Peo will wait for the final version release.

I can understand what you mean, and as you said some forums do not upgrade, and i have seen 3 active forums on vBulletin 2.x.x.

And hopefully they stay as vBulletin 2.x.x (especially two that I mod at) :) If it aint broke, don't try and fix it.

Hahaha, true.

what's this about people wanting to discuss all the technicalities of FWS?

No idea, but i have posted the thread on a few other forums because i feel like. I have undated all my phpBB forums to 2.0.17. Never been more stable before that.

Generally speaking, it could be regarded as quite impertinent to go around asking for admins to update their forums. :)

I'm sure the administration are capable of checking for updates themselves.

It's almost condescending to start threads like this, as if the administrators don't know what they are doing.

We know about the new versions and we'll install 3.08 within the next few days. Hopefully vB3.5 will be considered stable soon as it has some very promising features.

I don't know. I've had people do the same thing to me on my boards. If you're a forum member somewhere and the thing works fine, why are you so worried about what version they're running? :confused4

I'm running vB 3.0.3 on my forums, and they work fine. I mod several other forums that are running 3.0.8, and others. There isn't much of a difference in the different versions. I don't see a point in upgrading, unless there is a major change or security issue.

I second that.

I hated it when we upgraded this forum to 3 last time (i think it was 3). I am glad the bugs got finally worked out, but personally it is my belief that with every new upgrade to vB, it gets more bloated and slow. Hopefully, they will prove me wrong.

but personally it is my belief that with every new upgrade to vB, it gets more bloated and slow. That actually seems quite true to me as well.

I'm quite big on the less is more belief myself. I still think vBull 1.x had the greatest interface from a user standpoint, though the mod/admin panel wasn't great back then. 3.x is too busy/bloated for me, but I deal the best I can by disabling as much as possible.

That is why I use phpBB on my board.

Quite honestly, I preferred the earlier versions of Invision. In the version we have now, they've got so much crap in the admin panel that it takes me forever to find what I'm looking for! :shocked2:

You won't believe this at all!

That forum has version 2.0.3!!!!!!

EDIT: @Mandrake
I fully agree with you! Ipb is now very hard and complex to use! I prefer to use phpBB, it is the best FREE forum package.

2.0 was the best of the best if you ask me. I have never been a huge phpBB fan, but I loved IPB 1.3 or whatever the last free one was. I need to try some of the new ones that are up and coming.

Devshed has 2.0.3 as well.

Wow. That site is overcrowned. Having that many people online at once must use at least 2TB of bandwidth a week, let alone a month.
