Ok heres the deal:

I am making an instant messenger which is called ClanMan. I am going to make it BIG. I gotta advertise it with clan gaming sites and everything. There is only one problem.

I tried to register http://www.clanman.com. Then I found out someone else has registered it, and is offering almost the exact same services I will be offering.

This now poses a problem, I have done internal actions programming from scratch, i typed up almost 500 KB! This is half of the project! Now I am programming the exe itself.

I have no idea what to do. I got http://www.clanman.com.kg registered (lucky me!). I am very confused and I need to know what you guys think.

hmmmm, now there's an idea! but still i forgot, i don't got the money for a domain (since free domain service went down). Anyways I will keep this thread open for a little while longer. Hmmmmm, www.clan-man.com? (.net is taken)

I always thought it was possible to modify your code a little to change the name...
But then again. What do I know? :(

Without me knowing, I picked the name ClanMan how exactly? totally without consciousness?



internal actions programming (HTML) you cannot program in HTML it is a markup language not a programming one

yah there is about 100 lines or more of code to modify. then i would have to re-engineer the database, remake the gui, remake the webpage, and everything else. I guess I just may stick with http://www.clanman.com.kg. It works....

ah nevermind, just create your own version. trillian is missing some parts including editing your profile in AIM/ICQ

Ok some clarifications are needed. I did not create Trillian! Neither am I related to the creators of Trillian. I just like Trillian so much that I'm promoting it. Trillian is not open-source. If you like some features in Trillian use the feature request forum at their website. www.trillian.cc

Also the latest version of Trillian is .6351. As you can see it hasn't even reached version 1.0 so some features are missing. See their FAQ at the website to find what features will come out in what versions. Even though some features are missing I still find that it is definetly better than all the other one-in-all IM's or any other IM.

Right click on ICQ medium->connection name(i.e. ur ICQ no.)->personal options->view/change my details.

Repeat the same with the AIM medium.

A good software plan or bussiness idea starts with a domain name (or several)
Like if you want to start a bussiness, start with a general name like

okiepokie.com

after that you can make your software and call it okiepokie. After that, when you make thousands of aplications, be sure that you have already registered okiepokiesoft.com. Or somebody else might have registered the name because he saw your bussiness grow.
Do it also with okiepokieglobal.com (if you go world-wide)

and ofcourse the mistypes:
okipoki
okiepokie
pokieokie

etc.

Got my point?
I think it is a bit stupid to make software without checking the domain name.
It is like when you have finished your website on your local machine,.. made the pictures and logo's for it. Paid for the advertising on TV. And then try to register your domain.

O yeah !!! Suddenly I got a good idea,.. I'm thinking of making a searchengine,.. let's finish everything,.. wow,.. I'm gonna invest in it right now!!
Curious about the name? I was thinking about yahoo.com

No he meant megagia.com redirects to cupidkey.com when a page is not found on their server. Megagiga.com is a free service that allows people to set up their own hosting service.

what's the problem?

simple, can't edit the profile. on AIM, after the directory, it'll just close the window. on ICQ, i can't edit anything.
