i went to the best buy yesterday to pick up a router, found the one i thought i needed and left. its this model http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?childpagename=US%2FLayout&packedargs=c%3DL_Product_C2%26cid%3D1122062340941&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper
looking at the description it says nothing about a firewall, though i assumed all routers came with firewalls. then i go next door to futureshop and see a very similar router only its called a firewall router. i guess its this model: http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?childpagename=US%2FLayout&packedargs=c%3DL_Product_C2%26cid%3D1115416832406&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper
if i want a firewall on the router, do i need to take the one i bought back and get this one?

It says for the linksys "Built-in NAT technology helps keep intruders out of your computers."
NAT is a hardware firewall and very secure and linksys is a very reputable company and highly reccomended when it comes to routers so id just go for that.

NAT stands for Network Address Translation. It's the ability to forward ports and what not to certain computers. But if you don't forward any ports, then it acts like a firewall since you haven't opened any ports. It's not the same as a firewall. A firewall is more flexible and gives you more options. But a NAT is sufficient for most home users.

uh oh. i've hit a snag. when i try and download torrent files from certain sites i get "failed: invalid torrent file" and i notice when i save them to my hard drive and try to open them that way they are 0 bytes in size. i did the port forwarding on 6881-6889 on the router and everything but still doesn't work. sites like torrentspy still work which makes me think its a http referrer thing. however i don't see any way to change this on the router. anyone know the solution?

When downloading I think you should temp. turn off your firewall of the router. There should be a firewall feature with an "enable" and "disable" option to it.

invalid torrent file means the torrent file is not allowed on that tracker.
