My dad got me a new computer yesterday (it's awesome :D)... now I can finally get rid of that piece of junk (the laptop)! :)
I have lots of stuff on the laptop that I want to transfer to my new desktop. So, here's the question: How do I do it?
PS. The new computer (which is custom built) has no modem, and there's no Network Neighborhood thing on the desktop.
PPS. I don't want to upload then download - that'll drive anybody nuts. So don't even think about suggesting that, joke or not.

Osmosis--- the process by which water is transfered through a semi-permiable membrane... That is the definition that I memorized back in high school... maybe it could work with computers too... just put the laptop on top of the new computer overnight... who knows?

Hmm..... I have no idea what I have done, but after playing with some stuff, and rebooting, the Network Neighborhood icon shows up on my desktop now.
Anyway, back to my original question... *look above*

I was in a similar situation as you, but I managed to use Windows Direct Cable Connection to transfer my files from my laptop to my desktop.

All I had to do was go to my computer store and ask for a bi-directional parrallel port cable (both ends of the cable male), costs around $5. I figured out how to set it up on my own, it was pretty easy. Just had to make sure both computers were set to the fastest parallel port setting (need to do this in the bios).
Here are some links I found off google that might help:

How about giving your junk (read laptop) to me? :D

Yeah, well, you can ask my dad first... see if he wants to give it to ya. Then you'll have to pay for the postage. But I'm sure you won't get past level 1.

You can also buy a USB cable, this goes a little faster.

I don't think his old laptop will have usb. But yes, I think it is possible using a USB cable as well.

Why don't you just setup a little peer to peer network?

Why can't you? Oh, nevermind. The laptop doesn't have a network card.

You can pick up a decnet PCI laptop network card for under $200.

All I want to do is transfer my files over to my new computer. I don't want to waste $200 for some laptop I'm never going to touch again.
