Just wondering what is the going salary for a Professional Web Salary... I know it depends upon where you live but, since I don't know too many people that are in that profession it would be good to know.

Any guesses or actuall data on this topic?

The answer to your question really depends on how you define developer.

Since this is in the webdesign/html forum, I asume you mean a designer (you'll see the differance soon). Based on what I've seen at career sites like monster.com, you can get a design job for 30 - 55k a year, maybe more if you're just that good. Freelance designers make a wide range of incomes... some make very little and some make an insane amount, it just depends on how you charge and how many clients you get.

Developers on the other hand do more complex things.... databse design, scripting, server management, etc.... Personally I am a developer and make about 48,000 a year..... working part time from home :) Basically if you work full time doing serious development such as C++, Java, VB, Perl, PHP, Oracle, SQL, PL/SQL, Access you can make 80, 90, 100, even as much as 150 thousand a year..... its all a matter of skill, location and having a good resume :)

Ah you are the same Ted from geekvillage right. A few days back I read your resume and it was really good. I was impressed by the good recommendations you have on your resume.

Hope that clears things up.

Developers there is a big need for but pure web designers? I don't see a future for that market since design isn't that hard to learn and with these editors such as dreamweaver.

Yeah but with dreamweaver and other WYSIWYG editors you get horrible wrong and inefficient code. I am helping a friend with his site. He origonally built his with Yahoo Page Builer. My version of his page is 20% of the size and is valid HTML. I can't wait to see how good the version he writes on his own is.

Developers develop.... program, make sites not pages, etc... Obviously a mere editor can not replace this (at least not yet).

Designers make pages, they do html and graphcis but they too can not be repalced by some kid and frontpage. Design is an art, its about knowing what works, what peopel get, what goes together. Some designers are far better than others and there os obviously many designers but that wont change.

does a systems analyst generally make more money than a website designer cos im studying computing at college but i do website design in my spare time and im not sure what path to take, although i generally enjoy web design a lot more.

comp sci... bleh ics... double bleh...

If you work with hard core anaylsis -- c, v, c++, java you'll make far more than a designer but then again, your job will be much more technical and prehaps much less intresting

In my part of the world, the big money is earned in London. You can get the 70, 80 and 90k jobs up there, but you have to be extremely well qualified.
