What do you guys use to clean your computer? I see ppl using Norton Antivirus and personally, i think its not good because it slows down your computer a lot and updates very slow. I own 4 computers and all are virus free unless I bump into porn sites (accidentally)

Softwares I use : Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware SE Professional.

Both are free. Another thing is that I use an ADSL modem with a wireless router, both contains firewall, so I guess it blocked all.

Suggestion on how to keep your computer clean?

Check out AVG Free Edition (http://free.grisoft.com), it's very nice software considering it is free. :-)

Or AVG Pro, which I use it. The company is great and their software rules.

i use avast! Home version (http://www.avast.com) which i love its quick and easy to use,(and is free), i prefer avast over mcafee and norton, however i heard AVG is good and want to try it sometime, but havent had the need since avast is working great

I actually am having a great experince with Norton..I got it for free thanks to connections with a person who works with Symantec. But i use the Microsoft Anit-Spyware for my spyware needs. I, unlike many people, have not really had a very bad experince with anything such as viruses or spyware..only on the "kids" computers and you guys know how stupid 7th graders can be on a computer! So I have to swipe that one about once every 3 months and it gets old really fast. But I have not done any major repair work on my computer...I just recently added the protection too.

I Use Symantec Corporate Edition. Works OK but is a bit buggy. No real problem.

I use AVG. While I won't say it is the greatest out there, it works for me. Just steer clear from bad downloads, and use some friggin common sense. Working in retail, I just want to smack customers that call and tell me they have 400 viruses found and 4,000 spyware findings and they don't know where to start. Its even better when they call and expect me to walk them through all that, specially when they are using a free online scan that only finds, not removes!

While as my life as a computer tech at the same location, I ran into more Norton problems then I ever wish to experience again. For some reason, it just hated computers. It is a great app once it is actually installed and correctly running, but thats a step that sometimes takes a bit too much effort when you are working on 30 PCs a day between 2 people. Plus, its a big on the hoggish end of resources.

I do like the one by Trend Micro. Had good luck with it all around, I am suprised it hasn't been mentioned.

Norton originally came with the computer I purchased but I soon deleted it. I am now using mcafee which is working great for right now but we'll see what happens.

I use Pc-cillin , it runs very good, compared to norton it doesnt take up huge chunks of resources. It is very easy to update and always catches out those sneeky little viruses.

I think Norton is too invasive and boggs down your machine.

Norton Systemworks 2005 (best defragmentizer EVER made) SB Search and Destroy. Adaware. Microsoft and Norton Firewall (synchronized). Internet Worm Protection DW6000 modem (firewalled). I work on peoples bugged up computers so I have to ahve it so when they plug into my network they infect nothing else. and never has once something been able to break this awsome barrier. :D

Norton/Symantec is good. Yes, they slow down your puter a bit, but that's life. The best way to avoid viruses is to be more careful where you go. You can visit porn sites regularly (or accidentally if you prefer), just make sure they are good/clean ones. :D

When visiting porn using Firefox, and set security to ask you about every cookie and active X controller. Combine that with my awsome securities I mentioned above. Inpenatrible :D

each anti virus has its own unique capabilites.. when some miss something others can catch.. so its better to have multiple antivirus / spyware available.. i currently have norton / mcafee and i occationally scan my pc with trendmicro .. i used avg in the past .. but i have to say i hate norton.. its slows my pc down and to me it doesnt seem like its doing something useful but taking up space :(.. then again i got it for free.. nothing beats free deals ..

I use AVG for anti-virus as well as Ad-Aware Free version for Spyware. One day when I used spybot and got rid of spyware, I had to use system restore via MS-DOS. :O

I was able to snag a couple free copies of a few different ones, namely Computer Associate's ezTrust and Trend Micro's (v 11) Pc-Cillin Anti-Virus.

I had opposite results. ezTrust is by far, one of the worst anti-virus applications I have myself ever touched, including norton's. Its not bloatware, its just "doest like to work"ware. I got their ezArmor package, which had their ezTrust antivirus and firewall. The firewall NEVER ONCE worked, everytime it said "error has occured' Yes, of course i reinstalled it and contact support, they were horribly dumb and basically told me I was out of luck. So I said forget that, just tried the anti-virus. Well, that never worked right either. Their support told me a newer version than the one that I got in the box is out, and that I should upgrade. Except the upgrade wasn't free, and I wasn't about to pay for an upgrade when I had to put out money to get it in the first place. I ended up complaining long enough until they eventually got me a free upgrade ;-) So I give them props there.

Either way, the Anti-Virus was horrible. SOOOo slow, crashed often, had horrible luck with it.

A few weeks later, I got the new version of Pc-Cillian for free (God, I love my job sometimes) and installed it, replacing the wounded ezTrust. Trend Micro's Pc-Cillian is amazing...its VERY fast, not bloaty at all!!!!! I love it, and have been using it for a few weeks with no problems.

Within the last week, I experimented with Anti-Vir. It worked good, but was very slow. At least I didn't have the problem running it in safe mode, when AVG simply refused.

Just my quick review over the last few weeks.

Kaspersky Antivirus is really good

i used this Kaspersky for years, it is very good but i found it slowed the system down to much, so now i have changed over to VET and because of the way it works you dont even notice its running.

Kaspersky PRO.

Cleaned out 28 viruses that Norton didn't. I'll never look back at that "thing" called Norton AntiVirus.

Kaspersky PRO.

Cleaned out 28 viruses that Norton didn't. I'll never look back at that "thing" called Norton AntiVirus.

Kaspersky has like 93 % detection rate where norton has a 84% detetion rate "-_-, i read the stats somewhere on a site where they carried out their own tests or something like that... and yea norton hogs the system real bad.
KASPERSKY IS THE BEST!
