Now that MS has sounded the death knell for it's FREE e-mail list service, anyone know of any good FREE replacements?

You can hop over to topica.com or yourmailinglistprovider.com
I think topica even pays you to place their ads in your mailing list. Check out the site for more details.

Another free service (but with ads) is Yahoo Groups (which used to be eGroups and Onelist combined). Onelist and eGroups used to be pretty good. I've not tried the new Yahoo Groups yet, though.

I think yahoo owns whatever you write, if that makes a difference...

Could you post a URL to where it says that? If it says that, I'm definitely never going to host a list there!

I just checked their TOS:
http://docs.yahoo.com/info/terms/
I'm not sure I understand it correctly, but it looks like they only reserve rights so that they can (say) display your mailing list archives on their site. Once you terminate the service, their rights disappear as well. It looks okay, I think. But I'm no lawyer, and I'm not sure I understand the legalese well enough to exclude any other possible interpretations.
