Well this sucks, 9ug has been down for a couple of days. I asked the owner he says he just doesn't care about keeping alive something that takes so much bandwitdth. Grrr....I hate this 9ug was the best even if they had popups now.
I know the owner he says hes putting it up for sale.
Question for you guys: How much do u think 9ug is worth? It has over 15000 accounts and over 750000 monthly unique visitors.
Heres his email if anyone is interested, carrollg@nminc.net

What a loser! He was supposed to be dedicated to his service, and having 15,000 People and ditching them is unacceptable.
I wouldn't pay to take it over, it would suck up money from me faster than you could imagine. No money should be paid, because no money is probably earned.

It has a membership base and visitors, now the trick is to turn it into some sort of profitable business (something 9ug wasn't able to do apparently).

Didn't they get sold about a year ago when all they had was the bottom link on the page?
Or am I mixing them up with 50megs????

Yeah, your right there used to be a bottom link, will, the former owner sold it to carl who owned nminc.net which provided the servers.
It might appear that hes a slimeball for abandoning a bunch of ppl, but carl did rescue 9ug when it was on the verge of shutting down completely. But oh well i suppose it has to come back sooner or later...the exit fuel ads will probabely have to be put somewhere.

Big deal! NBCi probably had 1000 times that many members, and they're ditching all their members' websites as well.

The guy at 9ug paid his pocket money to try to run the site for long as he could. Money he could have spent on diffrent other things..
I am just thinking of how stupid people are wanting adfree host now.. They better pay a fee to get rid of banners or anything that can compare the cost of the real traffic.. even though 9ug tried with advertising that was not enough.

Back when I did HomeFree support I worked with 9ug and many other hosts and I can tell you that no one is simply ditching any users. However, many of these hosts relied entirely on cpm based banner ads to pay for their servers, their bandwidth and their admin's time. With the market changes its hard to find good cpm banners for any site, especially a free host.
Please realize that while this host may be shutting its doors, there are many other great hosts that remain open and will remain open long into the future.

I never used them, so I don't know.

The thing is I think all free hosts are going to hell. 9ug was doing very poorly even with so little operating costs. I think it costs 1000 dollars to maintain monthly and they were making 200 bucks off doubleclick ads. 9ug has 0 employess because nobody looks after it. The owner has to taek care of net media which is his paid hosting company and work on his real job.
So think about that 9ug didn't have to buy bandwidth or space from anyone cause they owned it and no oe worked there. If they were doing that poorly think about all the other hosts. EVERYONE WILL DIE!!!

1000 dollar of operating costs is not little when you only make 200 dollars of banners and pay the rest out of your pocket...

If all the free hosts go out of business, the internet will never be the same again. A lot of information on the www is hosted on free webspace providers.

But 9ug never warned any of its members that they were going down. NBCi is, therefore their members have time to change providers.
