Hi,

I'm looking for a free webhost that supports mpeg files, ftp upload, remote banner linking and that offers a resonable amount of space (50-100mb). Does anybody know of any?

No. I doubt your going to find one either.

But you could always rar it in 5 megs parts and then zip the rar's and use 50megs..

Like TJGuitar85 said it's doubtfull that you will find a semi-deceent host that supports large mpeg files, after all these is no way to make any type of revenue to justify the expense of these files.

How do you rar it, and what does it do??

www.rarsoft.com

WiNRAR seperated files into parts so you can transfer big files with smaller individual sizes, you can also make it a self extracting exe so people dont need to download winrar (but most people ahve winrar, i think)

I'm confused. What is considered to be a big mpeg file? I had an avi which was about 11mb but i sqaushed it into an mpeg and is now 2.07mb. Isn't this a reasonble web publishing size? Are there any hosts that would support this file size?

I consider a big MPG to be 20-30 megs, but if I had a cable modem, I'm sure it'd be 10 times that big.

Its all a matter of perspective and how long it takes you to download one. heh

Hey, heres what you do.
Get an account at freehost.nu or freedom2surf or whatever.
Then make some accounts at www.theglobe.com They give 25 mb of space I believe, with no file size limits. Upload your movies to theglobe.com, but don't link straight to them from your main site. Instead put up some html on the globe site and link to that... thats what I'm doing at my site, I've got movies stored there and its been working decently so far... as long as they aren't pornography movies the accounts should stay active.
Theres also web1000.com which gives a lot of space and has no file restrictions.

The problem is that if free hosts allow big files then high traffic porn and warez sites would host their files there. Its the people that abuse things like this that ruin it for everyone.

Even if they were to put a 1 meg file size limit people can still chop up their movies and abuse the server that way.

You can Try www.web1000.com
No filesizelimit 50 Megs, so open a few accounts.

Otherwise you can use www.9ug.com 5MB filesizelimit and 100 Megs

Both have pop-up banners, but what the hell...

If I RAR it, would I have like 10 little clips of the video, because I want to start up a music video site again. I want to keep the videos in full length though. Oh well, I don't know what I can do.

winrar doesnt seperate it into little clips. It just seperates the file into smaller sizes. if you dont have all the rar parts and you tried toe xtract the file then the file would be corrupt

I signed up with Gizbo, I successfully uploaded a mpeg file but when I clicked on the file and downloaded it Realplayer came up and said ' you need new software to play this clip'. Does anyone know what happened? -- Thanks

turn off support for MPEG in realplayer. that should do it. use wmp6.4 (Windows Media Player 6.4) instead. ;)
