Yes they are serious, many websites on the internet are hosted by them right now.

man, these freededicatedservers questions are getting old. these should be a note right up at the top with the forums rules saying how big a scam it is so these repetitious questions don't waste any more webspace.

alabama man knows it's a scam, he's just being a smart ---.

It is a scam becuse they require you to put that ad at the top of your page for 14 days to "monitor" your clickthrough rate, making them plenty of money. after these 14 days of "monitoring" they tell you your site didnt cut it.

Basically they make a profit and offer nothing.

I'd rather have ibm hackers install an ikonboard for me than pay for a vbb.

Ikonboard IS NOT the problem--its the ftp on f2s.com, any files I try and upload act the same way.

Does anyone have a general idea how long it takes their tech support to respond? Or if they'll respond to those woh use free web space at all?

I'll try the site again, hopefully its up and running by now.

I personally know 2 people with 2 different experiences with them. One got told after 14 days, they didn't make it. And one did make it. The one that did get hosted has been with freededicatedservers.com for a LONG while now. I cannot name the site, because I don't want to tarnish its reputation by revieling it's hosted free.

I do think they are scamming people partly. My conclusion is that they only have a few servers and only the REALLY deserving sites get in. And they use the hits from other small sites for 14 days for extra profit.

Hope this straightens out everything.

But the bottem line is that its almost impossible to get in!

And this, of course, straightens as much as if I would say the following:

Hey guys, do you know that if you follow the rainbow to its end, you will find a pot of gold? I personally know this is not a myth! Why? Because I know two people with different experiences with this. One walked off a cliff and died - RIP. I can't tell the other's name because his reputation will be tarnished if everyone knows he didn't come by the money by hard work.

But I'm serious - this is real! Now you know the pot at the end of the rainbow is not a myth.

Any takers?

I know Shawn and he isn't connected to FreeDedicatedServers.com; I think he's being honest with us. However it does seem strange that they actually accepted someone and gave them a real dedicated server.

If you say so NC_TOM but a dedicated server costs a lot of money and these people can only recover their cost through advertising if some site like yahoo signs up with them.

They must have given the guy a virtual account and maybe an IP.

Screw Freededicatedservers.com :p

I am in no way affiliated with them. I'm just telling you the facts.
to put it simple...
ONLY APPLY IF YOUR SITE GETS MORE HITS THAN 1MILLION A MONTH

They aren't going to waste their time on small sites. Think about it.

All us "regular" people will have to wait for the new, and improved NetCabins.
Keep working hard, tom:rolleyes:

I have a site with more than 5 million hits and over 600000 page views in June. what do you say I just send my webalizer file to them. If they think it's OK, I will go with them. If not, I will not let them monitor my site. hahaha.

5,000,000 hits and 600,000 page views? something isn't right there...

He's not telling the truth, is he?

ebird
July 15th, 2001, 21:22
I am wondering that too. But it's the number from the webalizer.

Maybe I got some files hosted by hostonfly and that counts for the hits, but the actual pageviews are from my forum?

So how would this tarnish a sites reputation if word got out it was hosted for free? Whats wrong with that? I'd say a successful business with an internet site thats being hosted for free is pretty good!

All good things will come to an end. Why create a successful site on FDS when they could go down at anytime due to no profit? And if you did have the large amounts of traffic that you would need to get accepted, why would you want to go to another free provider?

sHaWn
July 16th, 2001, 08:43
If he Freededicatedservers go down
he has the money to pay for a good host. hell he can buy his own dedicated server.

There are more banners than just the fds banners on his site. He does make alot of profit.

But why pay for something you can get for free?

1) I believe you said it before, its bad for his site's reputation to be on a 'free host'.

2) What is the site goes down, hell probably loose some data, some files, all his receent logs and be down for nearly a week by th time he gets a new host, moves his dns and sets everything back up

sHaWn
July 18th, 2001, 16:03
True. He does keep extensive back-ups.
DNS changes are the only problem
FDS has been up for a long while. Something must being going right.

If you ran a free host that didn't accept any users and placed ads on a user's site trying to get accepted to make money off them, then ditch them, yeah I would think you would stay up for a while too.
