Can I use MyDomain with a free service like coolfreepages.com?

Hi,

I have a domain that I have hosted at coolfreepages.com, but they offer terrible service and, thus, won't change my MX records per my requests. I want to set up a BigMailBox account, but they won't cooperate. Can I add MyDomain name servers to my registration info and take control of the MX records? The catch, though, is that I still want coolfreepages to be able to host my page without using website forwarding from MyDomain. So, I kind of want to split the MX responsibilities.

Anybody have a solution?

Is your domain http://www.hoopsavenue.com ? (got that from your profile) - if so it doesn't resolve. Aside from that...

Since you probably don't have a dedicated IP if it is hosted for free (just guessing), you could try pointing the domain to the IP address of the server the domain is on via mydomain.com (though I'd think you'd have to use the other service, mydns.com).

Thanks for that tip. I'm trying IP pointing right now. I'm not sure why it isn't working right now. I had set up the 4 MyDomain servers as my name servers and then selected website forwarding on Dotster.

Just to be clear, you are controllig things at mydomain.com and *not* at Dotster, correct? This confuses me a bit...

What I meant was that I had set up the four MyDomain name servers at Doster and then at MyDomain set up Website Forwarding. And, that didn't work.

but updating the dns for your domain takes some days...
and perhaps also mydomain needs some time.
but it really should work.
i did use the same.

I've changed my name servers back to coolfreepages. I will try the MyDomain settings again in a few days and wait longer. Perhaps Dotster updates before MyDomain??? I don't know, but at least I know I did it right.

if I understood correctly all you must do is to redirect the domain to your something.coolfreepages.com account and use the my domain's MX features.that's all.
