View Full Version : How impossible is it to find mp3 storage space???!!!

I'm really stuck and need some help. I am the legal copyright holder of some mp3s (i.e. my own poor creations!) and I used to have them on Driveway for friends and people in general to download.

Then they switched tack and ended their storage service, so I switched to Idrive and they were great for a while...but now they are gone and so is everyone else I think!

I've done a lot of reading around here and at other places and know it is to do with not enough ad revenue. The market is not good for free webstorage.

But is there ANYWHERE at all I can host these files?

I need: -

1) at least 50Mb and preferably a lot more
2) guest access/download - i.e. so I don't have to dole out a password or have to grant permission to individuals
3) hosts mp3s
4) allows downloads thereof
5) is gonna be around for a while!

Preferably free...

Ugh I think I know this is gonna be impossible. If I have to pay, who do you suggest for the cheapest deal?

Sites like mp3.com don't give you full freedom over your own files which is stupid and sites like Zden force you to sell the files, and I don't want to it's just some fun at the end of the day! Most of the free webhosts don't allow mp3s or have a file size limit of 2-3mb or something restrictive.

Any help would be much appreciated!

spaceports... you just have to fax them something saying that you are the legal owner of the mp3's and that will work best I think. They give 20gb of bandwidth a month. That is a lot.

I believe http://www.mektek.net/ will accomodate your needs. They are the best FWP I've found so far since NBCi went out of business! In fact, in another thread, I've declared mektek.net the "new NBCi!"

Yes, I think they do offer php, but I'm not sure about mysql though. I don't really care though, as my site doesn't use any server side scripting except through a third party (for stuff like its counter, guestbook, etc.).

Yes, they do have FTP upload, the address is simply mektek.net, with no "ftp" or "www" in front of it or anything like that.

Yes, they do have ads, except the server does not insert it itself. You only need to have one ad on the main page of your website, not on every page itself. They let you place it where you want on the front page (my site uses frames, and I've placed the banner in its own frame just to be nice).

Have you tried http://www.myplay.com? 3 gig of space dedicated for mp3's...
