What would you say a fair price for a used system like this would be in US? I only need a rough estimate, not on the dollar. Thanks. :)

Pentium III 500
30GB
256MB Ram.
CDROM and a CD Burner
quality multimedia capability
no monitor, prolly keyboard and mouse

Please guys help me out. I've got a chance to get a better computer than the crap I've got but I really need to know this.:(

Why do you want to sell it in the US? How will send it to the US. The shipping costs will be more than the amount you will get by selling your computer.

I'm not sure how much it's worth in the US, but here it's worth around USD$800~$900, without the monitor.

I thought you lived in the US?

I would probably guess more around $500 USD but it all depends on the actual pieces of hardware.

I also thought you lived in the US LeX.

I'm not selling, I'm buying. The shipping isn't that bad. To make a long story short, a friend of mine do some work for a company that is about to renew their computer park. My friend can probably pick anyone he wants for free or close to free. Too keep face I have to at least offer some momey for it. In Sweden I would say it would cost at least 1000 probably more, depending on the actual parts.

Now you see my problem? :)

A used system with those specs in the US would be about $400 - $500...
For $800 you could build a new 1.3 GHz Athlon system with the rest of specs being the same

The prices for new stuff are much the same here as on your side. I suspected used prices to be lower but didn't find a good site with many offers to check. Thanks guys. :)

In Canada a person would get about $650 for it (used)

and canadian money is worth about 2/3 US money:cool:

I'll pay USD $250-$350 for a computer like that one... with the monitor USD $400.

I figure you would pay arount 400 - 500 US dollars. All the new 1.3 Ghz are going for around 1000 or more... so a used Pentium III probably around 400 - 500.

Check around. I am sure you will find similar results.

Thanks. It's all hypothetical anyway. I will get it for free or like $50. I just want to offer to pay say 1/3 of the price on the street. They won't accept (I hope!) :D

Say, where do you buy a new 1.3 Ghz for 1000? Have an URL? The prices I've found on the Net are as high as here.

my brother works for dell they had a bunch of sales going on for a while and he figured that if you combined all the sales together you could get a pentium IIII (4), 1.2 Ghz computer without the monitor for $400 Canadian

I would have bought it but im broke:(

If you build your own, instead of buying a complete unit, you can make a 1.3 GHz Athlon for under $800. Pentium IV would be around $150 more, but why pay extra for a inferior CPU?

Finally an Athlon fan like me :) ;)

Pentium is clearly an inferior CPU, based on my personal experience. Althon defeats it in nearly all performance tests.

Let's start a Athlon team ;)

Giancarlo

Yeah, I wanna join. :D
There are three computers in my house, and one is runned off an Althon 850 (Mine), and the other two are runned off Duron 800s. All are quite reliable.

It's hard NOT to be an Athlon fan if you've compared the specs on it against the specs on the P IV... The Athlon has the Pentium beat in every aspect

No kidding... and by the time Intel meets the specs of the Althon, AMD will have something new rolling along. Did I mention AMD's Profits actually increased quite a bit this year? Contradictory to what the market says of Tech stocks.

niv
July 17th, 2001, 19:59
the problem with AMD is that they're not too well known to n00bi3s.

Rick

It just goes to show... With enough of an advertising budget, you can easily sell inferior products to those who don't know any better...
Thus the success of Intel, Microsoft and (shudder) AOL

niv
July 17th, 2001, 21:30
don't forget MSN *shudders*

Giancarlo
July 17th, 2001, 21:33
Didn't intel's stock plummet quite a bit this year? AMD did well though.

I shudder at the thought of hearing AOL, never bring up AOL again or you will face my wraith.
