did you install any ad-ons or hacks?
take a look at the settings. perhaps you can modify something there...
post more details and a link, so it would be easier to help...

no I didn't install hacks to.
and everytime when I tried to upload custom avatars at www.f2s.com server,
it didn't have any errors, but just don't work
and I tried other servers like multimania.com it supports mysql and php,BUT how come when I try to attach file, I got a error script on top of the page like this:
.Warning: Max file size of 0 bytes exceeded - file [attachment] not saved in Unknown on line 0
and do you know what's the host for freesql.org, because I am trying to use freesql server for mysql and another server for php

@freesql.org
is just hosted on a cable modem. (private)
it's really nice for trying something out:-)
and for small non critical stuff.
AND free hosts often don't allow to use a externam databse... (i think with f2s it wouldn't work).
hmm... your warning. seems like you have to extend the file size. there should be an option where you can set the file size.
take a look at the forum at vbb. perhaps it's covered there.

O.k thanks.
I found a problem.
When I tried different servers it didn't work.
I think the problem is this
option:
Safe Mode Temp Directory
If your server is running in safe_mode, you'll need to specify a directory that is CHMOD to 777 that will act as a temporary directory for uploads. All files are removed from this directory after database insertion.
Note: Do NOT include the trailing slash ("/") after the directory name.
what's that and what should the directory be???

that's what i was thinking first... but then i thought files are stored in the database anyhow.
(didn't thought of temporary folder).
well, you just need to make a folder and chmod it to 777. so vbb can write stuff into the folder.
and you need to sepcify the path for it.
call it e.g. vbbtemp
and then configure vbb to use that one :-)

how to chmod it to 777???
Do I just creat a folder and upload it???
akersche
July 15th, 2001, 13:55
chmod to 777
is just setting permissions.
you can do so by uploading an empty folder with your ftp-client and than change the permissions for that folder.
777 is basically, that everything is allowed in that folder for everyone
(read, write, execute for all 3 groups)
coolcool
July 15th, 2001, 13:57
but how to change it to 777???
akersche

depends on your ftp-client how to set the permissions.
usually click on the folder with the right mouse and select permissions or chmod

O.k I am using ws_ftp.
I'll try it

there's like 9 options.
Owner:Read Write Execute
Group: Read Write Execute
other: Read Write Execute
do I have to check all of them and click O.k???

I did it.I created a folder called temp and put the directory to the option.
But when I tried to use customed avatar.
There was an error like this
Warning: Unable to create 'http://www.animestyle.f2s.com/vbb/admin/temp/avatar.gif': No such file or directory in /web/sites/141/animestyle/www.animestyle.f2s.com/vbb/member.php on line 962

hmm... just set up vbb on my own.
(had an ubb)
it did work without creating a temp directory and i tried to upload a file for a post.
worked just fine.
have you set the options correct?
http://www.animestyle.f2s.com/vbb/admin/temp/avatar.gif'
uploading an avartar:
browse for the file
name it
specify min users
THEN YOU NEED TO SPECIFY THE PATH FOR THE FILE.
HERE YOU NEED THE FOLDER YOU CREATED!!!
e.g.
/home/sites/animestyle/vbb/admin/temp
(that's just an example!! you need to check yourself for the path).
by the way. what version are you using?
have you got a script to import from ubb?? or found one in the member section? if so it would be great if you could email me that one:-)
Greetings Arno

/web/sites/141/animestyle/www.animestyle.f2s.com/vbb/admin/temp is the path to your temp folder. It's probly server based, not URL.

better hosts are paid once.
tera-byte is great
(just no subdomains)
cheaper would be worldzonepro (is good for the price they offer, but tera-byte is better, if you need a more reliable one and more bandwith)
but i realy think it should work on f2s. but it's rather slow i've heard.

Maybe......

tera-byte is okay for the forums unless you want forums.yourdomain.com
