When i try to connect to an ftp it just says "entering passive move" and doesnt show the files in the directory. wahts up with this?

hmmm, if fxp doesn't work, i think you might be able to just download everything and reupload it to your new host without any hitches.

but you see I'm on dialup. With a FXP wouldnt I be able to transfer directly from one server to the other without going thru my crappy connection?

There used to be plenty of them, but now they have disabled it. Geocities, digitalrice used to support it but now dont. I guess there could be others but this is the only one I know.

My master is mysterious sometimes. Me interprets his guttural sounds as "no, we are very sorry but we don't". But me has been known to be wrong more than once.
