I use shared hosting :) Shared, reseller and dedicated are all different beasts, then add VPS and VDS to the mix and you will get very confused it you don't do your homework first.
If you are thinking of becoming a host, I would suggest you do lots of research to see if that is really what you want to do in life.

I use dedicated, gives me the chance to create my own resellers, and prevents anyone from finding out your just reselling someone else's stuff. You also get much more resources on a dedicated, and I personally have a lot of pride in my dedicated machines so I really enjoy that aspect.

You have own hostname, nameserver and you can creat reseller for people, may be reseller dont have that. You will have more resources than a VPS too. But if your budget not much, you can start with a Reseller, then upgrade to dedicated later :-)

Purchase then from a reliable company who have been in business for a while. Most "bigtime" dedicated server retailers wont exactly close in anytime soon. Take a look around, you will surely find a few big retailers and datacentres.
Of course, when coming into a business like this, its not all about whether or not you have a dedicated or reseller package. Can you provide support? Can you manage your accounts? Can you protect your customers? Can you keep customers happy? Can you answer difficult questions they may have? Can you manage your own money?
Good luck anyway :)

Go ahead use bigtime dedicated server sellers and spend double the money u spend on those companies which have just come up . But remember if u pay for ur bigtime company double and it closes down ( hack attacks or some other reason) u loose double but if u host on newup coming companies you have less to loose if they go down . And remember who makes a company bigtime its the customers like you . Without customers no company can last .
And regarding reseller , get it if u can, cause it involves less headace if u dont have a tech team personal at ur disposal cause when u have a problem all u have to do is bug ur reseller provider to fix it . And if there a problem with ur account than others on that server will have same problem so getting that problem solved is faster than if ur only person on a server (in case of dedicated ) so problem resolution time doubles for reseller packages .
Dedicated u have to know various modules and whm capacity. Also how to manage the resellers u create. So dedicated = more money u spend + more headace as compared to resellers.
I am on resellers account and i have to say i can offer webhosting with almost nothing to worry about cause any issues that arrise , also arrise on other resellers also on that server . So , they get solved at faster Pace.
Hope that clearifies Reseller and Dedicated Delima . If not Read on Google about it.

Their prices are the reason they are still in business. You may loose twice as much money if they disappear if it was equally likely they would disappear. However, new companies with super low prices are far, far more likely to disappear than those who have been in business for a few years. My recommendation is to focus on hosts that have been around at least 6 months and have prices that reflect the services they offer.

There is nothing wrong with a reseller account. However, once again, if it is purchased from a new company with a very poor business plan, you are a high risk of your site disappearing. If you are offering services to others, you have to be sure you will not be let down by your suppliers, and chances are the people you deal with won't be using text message language that takes 50% longer to decode. :rolleyes2

We use a dedicated. It allows 100% of server speed to go to our hosting and provide high quality hosting to our customers.

If I am correctly, no one says about the server management? And the OP is very new with dedicated server, I am afraid he doesnt have any experience. Is this a big trouble when renting a server?
FireStorM, do you mind to answer my questions?
- which platform do you prefer? Windows or Linux?
- do you have any experience about that OS? I mean server-side
- for starting, do you want to offer reseller accounts to your customers, or just start with end-users, until you have move hosting experiences?
- do you have budget for it? If it's possible, can you let us know how much?
Other might ask you some more questions to help you to det a right decision, but try to answer mine first ;)
