Can you please elaborate what you want?
Do you want the IP address of a domain name from a domain name?

http://www.yahoo.com > 253.253.253.253 [I know it is now true, but I use only as an example.
What's the formula for that?

There isn't a formula, your paid webhosting company will give you your own static IP. For example, my site is dim8.net and my IP is 216.234.172.228. I own all IPs from 216.234.172.224 to 216.24.172.254. When a client wants a static IP, I give them one of mine. =)

Hmmm might that be the difference between virtual hosting and dedicated?

Usually in virtual hosting many domains share the same IP. But a domain can also have it's own IP.
In dedicated you always have your own IP. You can also have more than one IP to host different hosts on the same dedicated server.

Talking about this, how do I get dos boxes from automatically closing?

well, when you're running a program in dos, once it ends, windows automatically closes, thus run this instead:
C:\WINDOWS\DOSPRMPT.PIF
that'll open an MS-DOS prompt. run programs via this.
