$26\yr. I could deal with. What do they mean by 1 MySQL database? How much space do I get in that? Also, how many visitors is 1 GB\mo bandwidth (I don't use audio, video or anything that takes up a lot, do use lots of DB though). Is Valuablehost trustworthy and reputable? Thanks.

I'm ready to go with 'valuablehost.com' myself.
I just a few minutes ago got a refund from clickbank for http://www.hostyard.com/
Although my site is still running at 'hostyard' I can't deal with a place that theres one control #1 person and he disappeared 2 months ago. (read the messageboard there if you have the patience !!!!!!! --- 2 months of grumbling and 2 months of...where is ...???(person that runs the place).))))) Then 2 months later the 'control man' surfaces in las vegas asking about free isp's so he can dial up? Hostyard has a South Africa address.
hey..did you notice many of these economy places have oddball addresses like India?? (hosturbo?)
hey..a suggestion...don't expect your webhost to be your source of education but I think there should be somebody around in case you have real problems with the functioning of your site. A messageboard is nice because you can ask questions with others hosted on same service.
Don't worry about your bandwidth quota unless your running a high traffic site.(or keep all your video's there?) ah..I think I'm right.
So for me its tacidhost/tacidblue which vanished and then hostyard of which the simple problem is the management vanished 2 months ago meaning I have no guarantee they will be around tomorrow.
Now valuablehost..all I could ask is that their uptime is greater than downtime and they plan on bveing around for a year if the are collecting yearly accounts. I don't need 24/7 support but it is nice to have somebody around to ask a question once and awhile.
Next I will find valuablehost is having problems and the management is on a vacation to China till 1/02.
Please excuse my knocking of hostyard.I got good referrals but the fact of life is the owner/operator decided to disappear about 2 months ago. (with zero information to clients)

try PMing ValuableHost, he's a member here.
1 GB/mo bandwidth: suppose you have 1 page that is 100 KB overall (images, text, everything), and the visitors don't hit the stop button (they download everything on that page), you can have a maximum of 97,656 hits (if he defines GB as 1 billion bytes), or 104,857 hits (if he defines GB as 2 to the 30th), or 102,400 hits (if he defines GB as 1000 MB) per month ;)

100kb for 1 page!! That is huge man! I would guess 50 kb is the maximum, and calculating that everyvisitor visits 10 pages, you woudl be capable of having around 20 000 visitors/month.

zz4 (or anyone else),
You said you used clickbank? Is that some middle man to protect your money from dead hosts? I think I may want to do that especially since ValuableHost requires an up-front yearly payment.

I'm no expert here but when you use your credit card various places use different services to process credit cards for them. Some places I see paypal and some places 'clickbank' and some places 'nomonthlyfees.com' etc.etc. I can't think know who tacidhost/tacidblue used but it was another one.Often they have toll free phone numbers and are very easy to contact. I do not know their policies but with tacidhost/tacidblue I got a refund almost 90 days later but I think that was because there was a massive stink by many thousands that got ripped.
As to HostYard it was 'clickbank' and I paid under 30 days ago.I called and there were no problems..they said they refunded my money.I try to think they might keep a complaint file on different firms they have contracts with and when you get 'no problems' its possibly because they have many others asking for refunds also. Of coarse I need to actually check my bank to be sure a refund was issued.
As to Hostyard I don't think there was a problem up till a couple months back. The guy that runs the place does a vanishing act.It seems the place still runs except those on server 22 were told to find a new host by email. If one read the support board I can't see them getting one signup in last couple months so where is the revenue coming in? My last straw was when _______ posts from las vegas looking for a free isp. yes..theres various excuses such as las vegas is convention city but _______ was reported to be in las vegas 2 months ago !!!!
Now sometimes with these charges your bank will want to change your credit card #.Could be a pain. Also you can get charges removed sometimes via your credit card bank.(vs.clickbank,paypal) My experience here is using a citibank creduit card. I was ripped by a Taiwan company over some web-based services so I complained to citibank.Every complaint form I filled out only brought another letter telling me they did not recieve anything.3 times. Then they said I was too late. Now I just use one of these debit cards from a bank I have a checking account. One of these atm cards that has the Visa symbol but actually is only a debit-atm card.
hmmmm..I'm a picky person? NO. It seems the internet trend to take money and disappear or change the contract after you pay. Say if I sign up with 'valuablehost' for a 200mb plan and a month from now I get an email saying;;;;;; due to internet conditions and declining ad revenue we have to change your account to a new exciting 10mb plan.
Every host has problems.I have an account with Worldzone and it seems that place will be down another month but I'm not screaming. At least they come forward and talk to customers and nobody has told me my 120mb account is a new exciting 5mb one.

valuablehost uses paysystems.com which seems aok..toll free number, etc.
On signup it said avoid using free email services but I used a yahoo one anyway. The only non-free one I have is my isp of msn and 'outlook express'.My latest experience is dealing with a virus-worm with outlook express and it was a nasty one to get rid of.The anti-virus updates disable it but don't get rid of the extra files it creates in your computer.I had to manually remove them and self re-edit the WIN.INI file. These email worms seem to be getting popular. The fun of it is you keep sending out emails even though your not around. Best I know is I got last one from that tacidhost/tacidblue place. Owner was shane?@msn.com ??? All I know is I got an email from there about my account to my msn.com email address and next I knew my outlook express turned into an automated spam machine.(sending viruses)
So I paid $35.95 (200mb) to valuablehost and they use paysystems.com. Hopefully I can use it as personal webspace for a year.(I'm only a refugee from free web hosting)
