Hey i've got a question:

-Why some hosting companies want let's say 15 posts for host set up? these companies get money for their users posting? or what cuz i don't have any idea.

Oh nopes they dont get anything but popularity and traffic for their forums.They dont earn from those posts.Those posts makes a forum popular on which they can book advertisements and then they can earn.

Yeah, its a pathethic attempt at getting communities started. What a lot of these guys dont understand is that these techniques are self-sabotaging because a majority of users will stop posting once they've gotten what they wanted.

Its kind of like buying a hooker. You can pay her $100 and get some, but once that arrangement is fulfilled she's unlikely to stick around for free.

That's why it's good to have like rope and handcuffs handy.

its one of the oldest tricks for getting traffic to forums and making them popular.... and most of the times it works as well...

We only allow it for hosting, any other offers like that get tossed :)

Our site is a post to host sorta of site, But we not after avertisments or anything like that, we want to build a community! and your slagging them of! Most sites on here do it...

where does freewebspace get its revenue from? and why are the users here?
let me Guess !

Yeah, but the community built here has resulted from a common interest - web hosting, and wanting to build websites. Sites that give stuff away for posting are pretty stupid, since the only thing people have in common are the fact they want stuff for free.

I am sure Peo didn't spam other forums way back in 2000 to get traffic here. He had a unique idea and it just grew (and continues growing 5 years later) from there. In those days there were very few forums around, so those who got their foot in the door first were the big winners :)

With every man, woman and their cat, dog and canary wanting a big forum these days, it will be a hard slog to get something successful off the ground, unless you have some fairly unique content.

My friend started a site just over a year ago.. very hard to break milestones now-a-days like Jan said. But it's a very unique subject and people told him he was out of his mind. He's probably the biggest success around for that subject now.
