Its my 5th week at sympatico. Wow how the time passes quickly heh.

I 'graduated' last friday :p Had an average of 91 in the theorical exams and 87 in the practical exam. not bad at all. they even gave me a diploma! Wojciech Ostapowicz has successfully completed the Help Desk training. Awww, it feels so good. my only other diploma after my high school diploma. i think ill frame it and hang it on my wall, or make a paper airplane if i ever run out of paper :biggrin2:

The job isnt so bad there, except the ----ty schedule we got now. wed-sun, with monday and tuesday off. great, no social life for the remaining next 5 weeks heh.

The calls are usually okay, no excessive morons or knowitalls. Its actually kind of fun to laugh after a stupid call :p Like the one yesterday:
- Hello this is wojtek from bell technical support, how may i help you?
= Hello?
- Hello this is wojtek from bell technical support, how may i help you?
= Hello?
- Hello?
= Hello?
- Hello?
= Hello?
- Hello?
= Why the ---- are you helloing me like that you ----ing moron?!?! (paki voice)
- you not answer me, me say hello
= I said hello, you said nothing!
- You said i said hello, not nothing
= you moron, you stupid --- ---- moron. [hang up]

That was my very first verbally abusive moron. Normally im supposed to transfer to superviser when mem gets abusive, but it more fun to play back using a fake a ----ty paki voice back to him :D

There was also that lady from busines office:
- Hello this is wojtek from technical support, how may i help you?
= OOps, I called the voice tech line, im sorry. [hung up]
(Does Wojtek really sound like VoiceTech? lol :p)

Grampa calls in to talk about weather....

Dude made mummy call caus hes too shy to talk on the phone... (sounded like hes in his 20s. geeeeeez)

kid called on behalf on mummy to upgrade internet, mummy got bill next month, she wtf@@ :D

And other amusing calls :)

And then again we have the horror stories:
lady calls in to complain. Business Office cancelled her internet by mistake. service stopped working, her mom is dying in hostpital, her uncle wants to commit suicide, she needs to use both phone and reasearch medical ---- online at the same time but we can only offer her dialup as her line card was removed from the central and she needs to wait a week before its reenabled...

dude calls in with some problem. agent says he'll fix it and call back. agent calls member an hour later. says its fixed, dude asks what agent did. agent downgraded his service from 4mbps to 2mbps. member wtf^#@!. agent says he cant do nothing and he'll have to wait a week. member is in his 3rd week of waiting, still paying for high speed ultra and cant get his service back heh.

Overall its a cool job lol
the chairs are really cumfy and the coffe is good.

Oh btw, bell is planning on to release 20+ mbps service by the end of 2006. Interesting ----, tho youll have to live within 1.5km of the central. While beeing on the distance subject. Im with videotron cable now, tho i can get hs for half price. I wanted to change but surprise surprise. aparantly i live too far from the central. wich is weird. My left neighboor qualifies for the 4mbps service, my right neighboor qualifies for the 4mbps service, while I qualify for the 1.5mbps service. Kind of suckage....

Oh well, we'll see.

I was thinking of opening some kind of blog with the Top3 Stupid Callers of the day/week heh. I just need a name for the website now :p

It's nice to hear that you like it...and no offense, but I hope to GOD that I don't end up working tech support with my Computer Science degree. I wouldn't mind being a "tech guy" I suppose (ala Nick Burns..."Your welcome!"), but I've had enough phone experience working a part time retail job. And a tech guy doesn't make much. I hear all sorts of things with guys pulling in 75K, two years out of CompSci...I want to be one of those guys.

Heh, this is what i get for beeing a lazy --- and not going to college. :)
In my group we have a few ppl who have some kind of university engineering degree, but their all mostly fresh immigrants and they had to start somewhere heh So yea, you can always start tech and look for something better in the meanwhile.

Wojtek is pronounced VoiTech :p

Already being rolled out in Australia... can't wait for it to get momentum...

And your job sounds nice, I'd probably get fired on my first day (/me has a way with people, a not-so-good way)

Is it ADSL+2? Or Fiber?

ADSL2+

ADSL2+

Very cool. My ISP will be installing VDSL+2 in my area. There are only about 110,000 customers out of their millions that are serviced by Fiber Optics.

All I really care is for a stable and reliable connection. Whether it's 1.5mbps or 15mbps.

Stable? Move into the colocation center? :p

Stable? Move into the colocation center? :p

My DSL line is extremely stable. In the past 3 years I've had them, they've been down a total of... 4 hours. Even with the hurricane situation, I had DSL Connection. Thankfully I have Fiber Optics installed in my area, no copper.

Besides, a colocation center is just too noisey for me. :p

4 hours? I've had maybe...100? :p

Once FIOS rolls into your area, you'll have 100% uptime!
