Alright here is the deal. I am going to have enough money to buy a iBook by the end of the month at the latest. I have found a great deal on eBay and I can afford it new with a education discount from Apple. It will of course come with wireless and all the usual mac bells and whitsles and a family friend has MS Office for it so that removes one thing keeping me from switching. I have always wanted a Mac. Ever since I got my iPod at least. I also want to take my computer with me where ever I go and be able to use the In-Room High-Speed at the Hotels on MY computer. To not have to endure long plane delays with staring at the runway and my iPod in ears but to be Chatting with friends and listening to the music! But as artistic as that sounds I will only be able to use the internet away from home. My Dad is firm on me never recieving internet on a computer that is in my room...I would never look at bad stuff and he knows it but he still wants me "protected". (W/E i here about enough sex topics at school I am happy to get AWAY from it). But anyway the point of my post is...Is it worh it? Should I put 800 dollars into a computer that I can't use for internet at home? I wish my Dad would like work out a deal with my Dad I know he can set for me to only get internet access on the weekends etc. But yea. Of course it could help while babysitting I could be on MY computer on THEIR network. Idk...Just tell me...is the switch alone worth it? Is the portability worth it? Thanks!
Oh and another thing I can get a 500 dollar laptop with Windows with around the same specs as the mac...is OS X worth it?
Sry for the LONG post! :biggrin2:

I say no, a computer without internet is pretty much worthless, unless you're only going to use it for work or school stuff.

How old are you that your father can't trust you yet?

Yea I am only 14. And my dad trusts me but my parents are both very firm on how internet access should be used.

Jeez, seems like your parents are too overprotective..

I already went through the parent over-protective thing over at iLounge so I dont wanna do that here. The bottom line...my parents pay for it all so it is their right to decide if I can use it or not. Thanks to everyone for their input I decided to go with the iBook!

Well you can't blame your parents for that but I agree that no computer is worth having if it dont have internet capabilities unless your just using it for school work.

Here is another thought I just came up with. What about getting a laptop and loading a triple boot on a PC with Windows/Mac/Linux or just a double with Windows/Mac. I would do this with hacks like OSx86. I get the idea here (http://post-spm.blogspot.com/2005/08/triple-boot-successful.html).
The idea:
-It's Cheaper!
-I can use MacOSX on it!
-And still have Windows for my normal stuff.
It seems like a winner to me. I would go ahead and load OSx86 on my current computer but I am not willing to use my computer as a tester...that is another great purpose for the laptop it can be my techie test machine!
Idk...just some thoughts...although I still want a iBook!

Well, you can't legally obtain Mac OS X x86... so I wouldn't suggest it.
Do what you will though.
