It seemed like the logical next step for a long time. I expect to see it sooner rather than later.

It's even a bit strange that it took so long for Apple to create such a product.

I have an Archos AV440 (http://www.archos.com/products/overview/av400_tech_specs.html) and I simply love it :)

I sincerely doubt that the new iPod video will replace my Archos any time soon.

Same.. My iriver has been able to do video since launch.. and FM radio... and Line In.. and Recording...

I think you heard wrong. Changing the iPod's name would be a serious mistake...

Being one of Apple's best selling brands, I think they'll keep using the iPod name for years to come.

The Creative doesn't look half bad and there's nothing wrong with iRiver either...

But if I'd buy a new one right now, it would definitely be the Archos AV700 with a 100GB drive (http://www.archos.com/products/av_700/tech_specs.html). It's pretty much perfect.

Archos products, ive had plenty and ended up not being totally happy with them. I am sorry, but iPods blow them out of the water. no, not in features, but in quality.

And no, the video iPod is not coming anytime soon. We are looking at fall 2006 my guess. They are releasing a 5gb iPod and possibly an 80gb, though, I've heard.

80GB iPod...that better support some more formats or it'd be a complete waste.

Think Secret, those crazy Apple insiders, are saying "Oh, um, yeah, actually, it IS going to be a video iPod." So I guess we'll just find out tomorrow.

Apple may or may not be presenting such a device on Wed. One thing you have to think of when it comes to the long wait etc. is that Apple believes in good software...they may have a video iPod in their labs but not the adequate software to make it easy on the user (or as easy as Apple likes it to be). My hope is that a Video IPod will come out tommorow I would love to own one. But lets not get ahead of ourselves. As the Cheif Editor of iLounge said Apple said that 2005 would be the year of HD...their could be major upgrades to their computer lines also coming. The iPod is not the only Apple product. Well I am about to die of anticipation, idk about u!

Sorry to hear that. Personally, I haven't had any problems with my Archos products (nothing that the newest firmware wouldn't fix, anyway ;)) You do have a point about iPods, they are of very high quality. Apple has always tried to keep things simple and user friendly. I guess they don't assume that people are ready to flash their firmware from time to time, and try to get it right the first time. As for build quality, iPods are sturdy, I'd rather drop an iPod than an AV700, that's for sure.

Would I buy one? Maybe for my girlfriend, I'll stick with Archos.

Alright so we all know they came out with it...but a question do you think it is good or bad? I want one yet i dont. I want a iPod with video capabilities but I want it with a better screen and some-what new design all they did was thin up the ipod, put in bigger hd, add vid capbalbitlities and put a bigger screen on it...yet the screen is not near big enough. I am gonna hold myself in for the next model they come out with...i want 80gb either way b4 i devout movies and vids to my ipod.

I just bought my 60gb in August, so I'm half pissed, but when I had an Archos I never used it for video, so I guess I can live w/o it.

I'd buy it, if only to have braggin rights for having 150hours of porn on me at all times, and still look trendy.

as its taken over the old iPod, i might buy an old one in a few weeks as it'll be a LOT cheaper on eBay :D
