I am deciding between 2 HDDs. They're 2.5" to be used in a portable USB case. Both are 40GB, one is
4200rpm, 8MB cache
one is
5400rpm, 16MB cache

Now, the rpm probably = noise/battery more than speed, but
what about the cache? would the extra 8MB mean anything in real life? I'm not copying hundreds of tiny files every day on this...

Any comments?

Oh, they both seek at 12ms. Pretty terrible, eh...

Yes, the extra 8 MB cache means alot. As for file access times etc. Go for it!
